Inspiring Conversations with Max Ambrosio of Eurodent Dental Lab, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Ambrosio.

Hi Max, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I came to Wichita Kansas on vacation in 1987 from Brescia Italy. I had a friend that invited me for a Thanksgiving trip.
I fell in love with the Midwest, its simplicity and the friendliness of people.
I met my special someone and later married her in 1988. I had a small job after getting my work permit that paid $3.95 per hr. It was a dental lab. At the time we lived in a studio apartment on the plaza at the Park Lane Apartments.
I enrolled at Penn Valley community college to get some pre requisite to apply for Dental School. Working at a dental lab while going to school should have been an advantage.
I was 22 years old.
Having completed a degree in Italy in Dental Technology, I realized that the quality of work we produced in our “ high quality”outfit was not like the one i saw in Europe, and the people doing it had no formal education. Simply hard workers with some artistic and technical talent.
Maybe was me being an obnoxious European perfectionist, but I though that I could do better. The problem is that between my wife and I, we could barely afford groceries ( popcorn and Mac and Cheese) and rent.
My wife at the time liked shopping and so I knew I had to do something. The only direction we could have gone is up. We were already at the bottom!! lol.

My English was terrible, but my desire to succeed was stronger.
So after working 3 jobs (65 hr per week) and going to school at the same time, I met the Drs that employed my Boss at the time, a crazy Hungarian with a lot of talent and a narcissistic trait that could capture anyone in his web. He was talented but not a good team player nor a fair person. He finally put the business on a dramatic financial hole. The investors were upset and about to shut the place down at a loss. That’s when I saw the opportunity, I offered to run the business and pay the debt off. All they had to do is keep the work coming. I was 25 years old and my English was slightly better.
I never made enemies and never burned any bridges. After 35 years the business grew to 14 employees that went down to 10 after the different technological advancement. But always growing financially. We invested in commercial real estate as well to house our lab and other solid tenants.

Our Eurodent Dental Lab, has a great reputation for providing high quality dentistry at a little higher price than commercial outfits, emphasizing on the patients and clinicians equally.
A small business that has thrived while other disappeared because of the lack of renewing and reinventing because of technological and computerized advancement.
Always burning the midnight oil to ensure the quality and due dates are met has been our modus operandi.
Right now I am 60 yo( next month) , I work part time, and my faithful colleagues are running the place while I take care of my aging body in Arizona, playing golf and traveling with my 2nd wife who worked with us for 27 years.
We have 5 kids and 2 and a half grand kids, 2 dogs, an RV, and a home in Kansas for when we go back to visit.
Oh I forgot. We probably have 100’s of friends that we have collected along the way and we feel fortunate that they collected us as well.
I’m a lucky man, that loves to work hard and loves to help people.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggles and obstacles are the norm not the exception. Is learning how to deal with them that presents an opportunity.
Not and never an obstacle.
The solution is always there. Always.

We’ve been impressed with Eurodent Dental Lab, Inc. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think that commitment with quality comes with knowledge acquired through years of mistake and improvements.
We never quit. We are known for providing the best that we can do. Never looking at a clock or a profit margin.
Life is too short to be indifferent about big effort.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Kansas City in the last 40 years has evolved in a beautiful, energetic and innovative town. Great to raise a family or a business.
Every person we meet, from clients to friends, have always been loyal, reciprocal and part of memories that will live with us for ever.
The weather can be prohibitive, that’s why we opted to winter mostly in AZ., going back home every few weeks. Especially Christmas.
