Inspiring Conversations with Matthew Kissinger of 1st class real estate Kansas city crossroads

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Kissinger.

Hi Matthew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in real estate started six years ago, during the uncertainty of COVID-19. At the time, I was working as a server at Rancho Grande, saving every dollar I could to pay for my real estate license. I didn’t come from a background in real estate, and I certainly didn’t have everything figured out. But I knew I wanted more for myself, and I was willing to work for it.
When I finally got my license, I made the decision to go all in. I remember telling myself that I was going to “burn the boats.” It’s a philosophy inspired by the Vikings, who, as the story goes, would burn their boats after arriving on new land, eliminating the temptation to retreat. The only option was to move forward.
That’s exactly how I wanted to approach my career. No backup plan, no looking back, and no quitting when things got difficult.
And believe me, there have been difficult times. Real estate has challenged me financially, mentally, and emotionally in ways I never could have imagined. I’ve experienced incredible highs, disappointing lows, deals that came together, and deals that fell apart. I’ve had moments where I’ve questioned myself, but I’ve never questioned whether this is what I want to do with my life.
Over the past six years, I’ve grown tremendously, not just as a real estate professional but as a person. I’ve had the privilege of helping people with real estate purchases ranging from $100,000 to upwards of $2 million. That experience has allowed me to work with people from all different backgrounds, financial situations, and walks of life. Whether it’s someone purchasing their very first home, a family looking for their forever home, or an investor building their portfolio, I’ve learned that every transaction represents something much bigger than a price tag. It’s about people’s goals, sacrifices, and the futures they’re working toward.
Today, I’m continuing to build my business in the Kansas City market, surrounding myself with ambitious professionals, expanding my knowledge, and pushing myself toward bigger opportunities. I’m still growing, still learning, and nowhere near where I ultimately want to be.
Looking back, I’m proud of that young server at Rancho Grande who saved his money and took a chance on himself. He had no idea what the next six years would bring, but he believed enough in his future to take that first step.

Six years later, the boats are still burning, and I have absolutely no intention of turning back.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh boy, I kind of put everything on the first prompt!
-financial struggles
-mental health challenges
-doubt
-holding the emotional weight of peoples biggest purchases.
-however, never doubted my career!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 1st class real estate Kansas city crossroads ?
I’m a Kansas City-based real estate professional with 1st Class Real Estate KC Crossroads, helping buyers, sellers, and investors throughout the metro area.
I like to think I bring a different kind of energy to real estate. I started my career at just 20 years old, and now, at 26, I’ve spent nearly my entire adult life growing in this industry. Being a younger agent, I’ve always embraced my personality, charisma, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I’m naturally outgoing, personable, and love meeting new people. I believe those qualities have become some of my greatest strengths in this business.
Real estate is one of the biggest financial decisions someone can make, but that doesn’t mean the experience has to be intimidating, overly formal, or stressful. I love bringing humor, excitement, and a little personality into the process. Whether we’re touring homes, brainstorming ideas, or negotiating a deal, I want my clients to feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely enjoy the experience.
I also bring a fresh, modern approach to marketing, communication, and building relationships. I enjoy thinking outside the box, embracing new technology, and finding creative ways to make properties stand out.
Of course, behind the fun and outgoing personality is someone who takes his responsibilities very seriously. I pride myself on being honest, hardworking, accessible, and a strong advocate for my clients. I know when to have fun, but I also know when it’s time to get down to business.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve never felt the need to change who I am to fit the traditional image of a real estate agent. I want people to feel like they’re working with someone they can trust, laugh with, ask questions, and genuinely connect with.
At the end of the day, my goal is to make real estate feel less transactional and more personal. You can be professional, successful, and still have a little fun along the way!

Any big plans?
When I think about the future, I see endless opportunities, both personally and professionally. At 26, I feel like I’m just getting started, and I’m excited to see what the next chapter brings.
Professionally, my goal is to continue growing my real estate business throughout Kansas City, expanding my network, building my own investment portfolio, and eventually establishing myself as one of the area’s most recognizable and trusted real estate professionals.
One of my bigger dreams is to eventually establish a foundation focused on helping underserved communities build financial stability through homeownership and generational wealth. I don’t have all the details figured out yet, but I’d love to find ways to help existing homeowners better understand, protect, and grow the equity they already have in their properties.
Unfortunately, our industry has a complicated history. Discriminatory practices like redlining and blockbusting have left lasting economic effects on communities throughout Kansas City, many of which are still felt today. I’d love to spend part of my career figuring out how I can help reverse some of that damage, create opportunities, and make homeownership a stronger tool for financial independence in communities that have historically been overlooked.
On a personal level, I’m working toward building a stable, fulfilling life that will eventually allow me to start a family, travel, and enjoy the freedom that comes from years of hard work.
Ultimately, I don’t just want to be successful financially. I want my success to mean something beyond myself. My twenties have been about learning, growing, and laying the foundation. I hope my thirties will be about building something bigger, giving back, and creating a life and legacy I can genuinely be proud of.
