Inspiring Conversations with Matthew Bires of Cut and Smoke Premium Cigars

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Bires.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started smoking cigars 25 years ago, and I genuinely enjoy smoking cigars. It is great for relaxing and a good conversation piece. A year and half ago I decided to embark on starting a mobile cigar bar. Starting in Oklahoma, I went to learn how to roll from master rollers and learned the techniques of the craft. As well as what events can be good pairs. After getting set up, we started reaching out to people at pop up events, which generated business in weddings and private events. We continued to build on this as we created our website including bachelor/ette partes, camping trips, social outings and more. We started selling cigars on the website and adding photos and update blogs on past events. We also expanded to accessories and provide accomodations to events if possible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The issues we came across in the beginning were how to get around the business aspect of smoking and selling, rather than being someone who just enjoys the experience. We also had some struggles around learning the licensing. Other than that, simple business hiccups.

As you know, we’re big fans of Cut and Smoke Premium Cigars. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in hand rolling and crafting cigars. After learning and practicing to perfect my craft, I decided to incorporate it into my business, as something we offer during events upon request. I wanted to give people a view into the process first hand, and offer small classes during events. We also pair with an event space to offer to multiple occasions. What sets us apart from others, is the dedication and attention to detail with your experience. We like to help in every aspect, and we can also come to you! Also, on the website I personally see over every order before packing and shipment. We’re proud to show we offer a wide range of variety on events, and outings for people in the midwest area. Such include private events, sporting events, rehearsal dinners, retirement parties, ladies’ night, barber shops, game night, and more! We are based in Missouri, but also ship and travel to the surrounding states: Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska!
