Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Morgan.
Hi Leah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my yoga journey as a student many years ago out of a curiosity. Wondering what all the fuss was about, I rolled out a mat at a local health club and gave it a shot. With that first class, I started down a path of yoga that ultimately led to me becoming a 200-hour+ trained yoga teacher. Studying with inspiring yoga leaders, I’ve honed my unique style, which is a fusion of breathing, alignment, honoring your body, living in the moment and having fun.
This is the second studio I’ve founded, having sold my first one in Lee’s Summit in 2010. I am also the co-creator of the Kansas City Yoga Festival and the Kansas City Yoga Teacher Training program.
Whether your goal is to begin or grow a practice, increase your strength and flexibility, learn how to control stress, or become a part of an amazing local community, I can help students achieve these goals. In turn, you can begin building a more independent and productive lifestyle. I truly believe that the sense of peace and transformation that a yoga practice can bring will astound you.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I spent my first three years as an owner in ‘yoga business mode’, learning about running a business. After selling that business, I took that knowledge and opened Core Balance Yoga Center. While all businesses have ups and downs, the COVID pandemic became the biggest challenge for all business owners, and boutique studios were hit particularly hard. We instantly pivoted in order to keep our business afloat and embraced Zoom yoga. As we recover from the pandemic, we are planning a move and rebrand as part of our revival.
As you know, we’re big fans of Core Balance Yoga Center. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
What sets Core Balance Yoga apart from other places someone can do yoga is not only our community of yogis but our amazing staff of caring, talented teachers. We aren’t simply a place to ‘do yoga’. We are a place that anyone can come to learn HOW to do yoga and how to do it safely for THEIR bodies. A regular yoga practice not only offers strength and flexibility but also can help reduce stress and bring balance into people’s lives. We have seen people have amazing transformations as a result of a regular yoga practice. We are MOVING to a beautiful new location as of July 5th 2021. We will be in the middle of Lee’s Summit at 905 SE Langsford Rd 64063. We also have a large green space there that we can host big outdoor events.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up on a few acres in Kansas City, near Longview Lake. Being in a more rural area, as kids my sister and I had to rely on each other and nature to keep us occupied. We spent summers in the woods & taking care of our horses and chickens. I was an introvert until I stumbled across theater in high school. Time spent on stage helped me become a competent public speaker. I spent eight years in the advertising industry after college and another ten years in pharmaceutical sales before opening my first studio and becoming a yoga teacher.
