Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Anderson.
Hi Leah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up playing sports – basketball, soccer, swimming, and cross country – and so I’ve always had an interest in health and fitness. My dad introduced me to CrossFit after I graduated from college and I quickly realized that it was the perfect fit! It was a fun and challenging way to stay fit and satisfy my competitive side. My love for the sport quickly grew and 3 and a half years ago I took a full-time coaching position at Overland Park CrossFit.
As my knowledge of fitness and CrossFit began to expand, I also developed an interest in nutrition, since it is the foundation of health and wellness. I decided that I wanted to help people, not just in the fitness realm, but with their nutrition as well, and so I recently launched my own nutrition coaching company called Vitality Whole Life Nutrition LLC. Along with helping individuals in the general population improve their nutrition habits, I also work with pre and post-natal women to focus on their nutritional habits and exercise routine throughout pregnancy so they can remain as strong and healthy as possible.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, definitely not. There have been some times when I’ve felt burnt out and worn down and questioned if this is what I’m supposed to be doing. But then I have the privilege of helping someone and seeing their progress and I’m reminded that it is a privilege to get to work with people on their health and fitness journeys.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Vitality Whole Life Nutrition is a nutrition and fitness coaching business that specializes in working with pre and post-natal women. Many times when women get pregnant, the focus of nutrition is on that of the baby, but very little information is given regarding the mother.
Furthermore, many women are misinformed that exercising during pregnancy is dangerous for the baby when there are actually many important benefits of exercise for the mother and the baby. To better inform pre and post-natal women, we strive to guide women throughout their pregnancy journey by educating and advising them on proper nutrition as well as creating workout routines that are safe and functional.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Continue being a student! Learning all that you can about your product or services, how similar businesses work, networking strategies, etc. can be extremely beneficial. Never think you know everything or you’re doing the right eat. There’s always more to learn!
