Inspiring Conversations with Kristy Matson of Zen 2 Go Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Matson.

Hi Kristy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Massage has been my passion since I saw the benefits on my son as an infant. I returned to school to receive an Associate Degree in Massage Therapy. I had recognized that I wanted to help people and make a difference in others’ lives. Massage is a way to a healthier life. I love helping others feel their best. The human body is an amazing, beautiful, and complicated organism that I was always curious about. There are many ways to heal the human body physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I didn’t want to heal one of these synergies but embrace the being as a whole with a holistic approach. This was when I decided I wanted to become a Licensed Massage Therapist.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Returning to school after time away from the classroom can be difficult. When you have a family to care for, there’s often an added layer of consideration. I focus on the reality of returning to school to earn a degree to make a better life for my family and me. Trying to balance going to school full-time and running a household full-time is very demanding and challenging. I had to balance my time wisely and ask for help when needed. Dividing time and energy between responsibilities at home and school can be challenging, but one should not give up on their dreams.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Licensed Massage therapist, certified Corrective Exercise Specialist, and personal trainer. There is a lot of value in having these 3 different approaches when working with my clients. Manual therapy gives me the tools to include mobilization, soft tissue techniques, stretches, and corrective and strength exercises, all with the health and well-being of my client in mind. I’m constantly trying to learn more and educate myself to help my client best. I offer several different types of bodywork in my practice. A therapeutic massage session can significantly impact chronic and acute pain. Each session is customized to your unique body and issues. Therapeutic massage works in cumulative layers, opening and releasing each area affecting the place where you are feeling pain. You’ll feel better and better in a lasting way. Techniques in this session may include deep tissue, trigger points, myofascial release, and muscle energy techniques. Medical massage can help get you on the right track by assisting you in managing anxiety, pain, posture changes, scar tissue, fascia restrictions, and your healing process.

Each Medical massage treatment is designed to suit the client’s needs at the time and the protocol for the injury because there is such a large spectrum of medical problems. A shortlist of my massage therapy experience covers but is not limited to fibromyalgia, breast cancer, anxiety, frozen shoulder, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, overuse syndromes, tears, pulls, sciatica, headaches, fibromyalgia, whiplash, SI joint problems, low back pain, carpal tunnel, nerve entrapment, torticollis, scar tissue buildup from surgeries and more. Sports massage helps improve athletic performance & recovery time, allowing the athlete to train at a higher level of intensity and with less chance of injury. This is a valuable component of training for new or seasoned athletes. I can address the whole body but target muscle groups specific to your sport. The tools I use in my Practice are the Hot stone massage technique uses smooth, heated stones. The heat does both deeply relax the muscles and, at the same time, warm up tight muscles and relieve pain. Cold laser therapy is a treatment in which low-intensity light is applied to your body, typically over injured or inflamed tissue. The low-intensity light, called “cold laser,” is thought to improve blood flow and decrease pain and inflammation in injured tissue. Cupping uses a cup to pull an area of skin into a suction that decompresses muscles and connective tissue. This promotes blood flow to the compromised area, enhances circulation, and helps to increase the body’s healing processes — almost like a backward deep tissue massage. There are several different types of cups ranging from glass to silicone and bamboo, and there are different ways to use them.
