Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Pee.
Hi Kay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Laos House started as a pop-up during AANHPI Month in 2022 with one goal: to proudly represent Laos by sharing our food, culture, and traditions. We showed up to every event we could, introducing people to flavors that many had never experienced before.
As we grew, I began blending traditional Lao flavors with more familiar dishes, creating a fusion style that made our cuisine more approachable while staying true to our roots.
A huge part of our journey wouldn’t have been possible without Jackie from Cafe Cà Phê. She gave us opportunities to work alongside her at countless events, helping us build relationships and introduce The Laos House to the Kansas City community. Those early days laid the foundation for everything that followed.
Our first opportunity came at Iron District, where we officially introduced ourselves to Kansas City. From there, we moved into Parlor KC, which gave us the platform to truly showcase what The Laos House was all about. The support we received at Parlor opened the door to our next chapter at The Levee, where we’re now serving our newest menu and continuing to grow.
Looking back, every event, every collaboration, and every opportunity helped shape The Laos House into what it is today. And we’re just getting started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. There were countless long hours behind the scenes testing recipes, refining our menu, and figuring out what worked and what didn’t all without ever sacrificing the quality we’re known for.
Everything has moved incredibly fast, and it hasn’t slowed down for a second. Every new opportunity has brought a new challenge, and we’ve had to adapt just as quickly.
Believe it or not, making great food is the easy part. Building a brand is the real challenge. Earning people’s trust, staying consistent, creating an experience, and giving them a reason to come back that’s what takes the most work. Every day we’re still learning, improving, and finding new ways to tell our story while staying true to who we are.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At The Laos House, every meal is cooked fresh to order. We don’t pre-cook our food or let it sit waiting to be served. From the moment you place your order, we start cooking, ensuring every bite is hot, fresh, and made just for you.
That commitment to freshness, combined with our bold Lao inspired flavors, is what truly sets us apart. We take pride in serving food that’s made with care, generous in portion, and leaves our guests satisfied every time.
Beyond our restaurants, we also offer catering and private dining experiences. Whether it’s a corporate event, wedding, festival, or private gathering, we bring not only incredible food but also the energy and hospitality that The Laos House is known for. We believe great food brings people together, and that’s exactly the experience we strive to create at every event.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
family parties which is where i learned how to cook. I would always have to help my family.
