Inspiring Conversations with Katie Meyer of Pilates + Mama Movement

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Meyer.

Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Pilates + Mama Movement was born out of my own experience as a new mom. After having my daughter, I realized there were very few fitness spaces where mothers could show up exactly as they were—with their babies, their schedules, and all the unpredictability that comes with motherhood. As a longtime group fitness instructor, I knew movement had always been a powerful tool for both physical and mental well-being, but I also saw a need for classes that truly supported this season of life. I combined my background in fitness, my prenatal and postnatal Pilates training, and my passion for building community to create baby-wearing-friendly Mommy & Me Pilates classes. What started as a simple idea to help local moms feel stronger and less alone has grown into a movement-centered community where mothers can connect, move, and feel supported without having to choose between caring for themselves and caring for their babies.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges has been building something that doesn’t have a clear blueprint. Mommy & Me Pilates is still a relatively niche concept, so much of the journey has involved creating systems, class formats, and community experiences from the ground up. As a new business owner and a new mom, I’ve also had to learn how to balance growing a business while raising a baby, often working during nap times and after bedtime. There have been challenges with finding the right venues, navigating logistics, marketing events, and dealing with the uncertainty that comes with entrepreneurship. But each challenge has reinforced why this work matters. Seeing moms form friendships, gain confidence, and find support through these classes makes every obstacle worth overcoming.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Pilates + Mama Movement ?
Pilates + Mama Movement offers baby-wearing-friendly Mommy & Me Pilates classes designed specifically for moms in the postpartum and early motherhood seasons. What sets my classes apart is that they are fully baby-wearing friendly from start to finish, allowing moms to move with their babies throughout the entire class. I created these classes to support the realities of motherhood and make movement feel more accessible, flexible, and welcoming.

I’m most proud of the community that has grown from these classes. While moms come for the workout, many leave with new friendships, support, and a sense of belonging. My goal is to create a space where mothers feel strong, seen, and supported while navigating one of the most transformative seasons of their lives.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people is that Pilates + Mama Movement was never part of some big business plan. It started from my own experience as a new mom looking for a space where I could move my body without having to separate from my baby. What began as a simple idea to bring moms together has grown into a thriving community. Behind the scenes, I’m often building this business during nap times, after bedtime, and in the in-between moments of motherhood. In many ways, I’m living the same season of life as the moms I serve, which is what makes this work so meaningful to me.
