Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalyn Bell.
Kalyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business last year around November. I started taking classes from another marketing agency CEO (Hannah Eve) in New York with a group of women who were trying to accomplish the same goals as I was. A lot of marketing agencies are focused on sales or could even be scams.
I ran into this problem when looking for jobs to take the next step after college. Since this is the field I was in and studying, I wanted to make sure I would be happy with the career choice I made. So I started my own marketing agency to be my own boss. I love doing design work and public relations.
I have been focused on branding small businesses and creating designs they can use to expand their business. I also work with managing social media to help businesses grow. I have met so many new people through the projects I have done and I love it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting started was probably the hardest part. This was a big leap as a person to decide what I wanted to do. I am still a full-time student through the University of Kansas and I work full-time as a banker in the area. I was scared I would not have time to grow my business like I wanted to. But it is all about time management and keeping planners/notes everywhere to get the job done.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Only Agency LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business consists of several offerings. I love doing social media management and design. I can create a design for anything the business needs. I offer to create ads for businesses and logos. Even designs for business cards I have done in the past.
So far, I have been looking for more small businesses to run social media management for because I know it takes a lot of time away from the owners who have better things to do. What sets me apart is that I always create one on one time with the business owners to make sure we have the same goals.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Social media! Message anyone, you see as a potential client. Make the message personal to them. Research their company before talking to them. Another way to network for me was by asking my professors who owned small businesses in the area.
They give me advice and help me network with other businesses.
