Inspiring Conversations with Julie Phillips of The Chill Spot

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Phillips.

Hi Julie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Chill Spot was a vision and dream come true of my late life and business partner, Brent Goodall. He had always wanted to own an ice cream shop and when the pieces starting falling into place, we went full in. We opened on April 1st, 2024, and the community immediately embraced us with so much love. We lost Brent, very unexpectedly in May of 2025. The shop was closed for 1 month, but I decided to reopen it for the sake of the community and knowing that I needed to keep his legacy going.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been pretty smooth other than losing the love of my life.

We’ve been impressed with The Chill Spot, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a small ice cream shop located on the Historic Harrisonville Square. We serve 24 flavors of hard scooped, hand made, small batch ice cream. As many of our customers will attest to, it is the best tasting ice cream they have ever had. We pride ourselves on having friendly, customer service and the space is absolutley adorable, if I do say so myself.

How do you define success?
The smiles we see when people try our ice cream for the first time.
