Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Maxey, Rachel Huston, and Samantha Herrington of Gen 3 IV Hydration and Wellness.
Jenny, Rachel, and Samantha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We are 3rd generation nurses who learned to work hard from a young age. When we came up with our name, we wanted it to mean something to us. Having come from a lineage of nurses and being that 3 out of the 5 girls are nurses, that is where Gen 3 came from (3rd generation, 3 sisters). Our grandma and mom paved the way for us to see what hard work can achieve. Our idea for this business came as we sat in Jenny’s basement one night, trying to figure out the next step in our careers. Jenny had wanted to break into the health and wellness field for a while, Rachel knows about starting and running a business, and Samantha can start a conversation with anyone. We all believe in functional medicine and the ability to help people outside of the normal hospital setting. Our goal is disease prevention and helping those with chronic and acute illnesses that might not want to take a conventional approach. We want to see people living healthier, more quality lives so that they can enjoy life to the fullest.
Background:
Jenny is the oldest and has been a nurse for 13 years. She started in the ICU at Truman, then went to PACU, ER, GI Lab, and in-home infusion. She was a home infusion manager for 1.5 years, working with nurses across the country. She then took a contract in GI at Truman for 9 months before getting the business going. Jenny also stays busy when not working, taking care of her 3 kids, a set of 10-year-old twin boys and a 5-year-old little girl.
Rachel is the 2nd oldest and has been a nurse for 15 years. She received her master’s degree in Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University, then went on the get her Doctorate in Health Professions Education, where she teaches in the RN to BSN online program through Northwest Missouri State University. She started at a small hospital in north Missouri on the Med Surg floor, then went to Research in the ICU and Lexington as house supervisor. She has also worked at ER and PACU. On top of her nursing responsibilities, Rachel and her husband run a successful mum business on their farm in Higginsville, as well as a pork chop stand which Chad travels within the summer to different fairs.
Samantha is the family’s baby; she has been a nurse for 4.5 years, working in the Pediatric ICU. She was a travel nurse through some of the pandemics and doing home infusions. Before returning to pediatrics, she took a home infusion manager position for a short stint. She is married to a wonderful man, and they have an infant son. Her son is one of the reasons she decided to start a business, to have more time to spend with him after we get it off the ground.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Between coming up with the name, finding a building, navigating rules and regulations, and writing policies, procedures, and protocols, the road has been challenging but also a great learning experience and worth it! We all took multiple classes to learn as much as possible about vitamins, antioxidants, and our laser fat-loss machine. Jenny took classes to become certified as a health and wellness coach. It took all three of us working as hard and often as possible to open up to service the Blue Springs and surrounding areas as soon as possible. We were all able to use our strengths to accomplish each task, and we also took on tasks outside of our comfort zone to continue growing. Our main priority throughout this entire process has been, first and foremost, to keep our clients safe and offer services that we truly believe in to maintain better health for all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Gen 3 IV Hydration and Wellness?
We specialize in IV hydration and Injection therapy, weight/fat loss, and wellness coaching. We have an extensive protocol regarding our weight loss program. We have the only green light laser fat loss machine in the KC area, and we did a lot of research before deciding to offer it to our clients. This machine has been highly researched for over 25 years, and the results are outstanding. It’s the only laser fat loss machine FDA-approved for a BMI of 40, and the results are incredible when paired with health and wellness coaching, vitamin protocol, and movement. We couldn’t be more excited for our clients to try this machine and our other services.
IV hydration is a considerable service in itself. We are most excited about the health benefits it offers the community. The absorption rate for IV vitamin hydration is roughly 90%, while vitamins taken by mouth are about 50-60%. Therefore, the absorption rate given by IV is much higher, which means we reap more benefits that way. We off a variety of drips to help with different ailments. People think most about Hangovers, but we are so much more than that! We are incredibly excited about NAD, a coenzyme that we make naturally in our bodies but declines at age 40. We have seen it help our mom with her chronic foot pain, and we have another client relieving his anxiety. This product helps repair cells and improve mitochondria to help increase energy production. It helps decrease inflammation, increase energy, and improve mood. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is another antioxidant we feel can help many clients; it has been studied significantly with diabetic neuropathy and show a reduction in pain in these patients. It could also help with post covid taste and smell but hasn’t been studied enough to know its total effect in this area. This antioxidant can also be helpful in other neuro diseases due to its neuro regenerative properties. We have many different drip combinations to help with fatigue, metabolism, immune system boosting, migraines, hangovers, stress, and more.
We also offer injections for metabolism, immune boosters, and energy. Compression therapy is excellent for athletic muscle recovery, increases blood flow to the lower extremities, decreases the risk of varicose veins, and can help with the healing of diabetic ulcers. We offer it in 30 min sessions. Health and Wellness coaching is a 12-week program where Jenny has 1:1 sessions weekly with each client. She does individual meal plans and discusses the importance of sleep, reduction of stress, increased movement, and much more that goes into losing weight and maintaining it for a lifetime. Jenny introduces this as a lifestyle and not a diet. She wants to create positive habits. Jenny also loves everything about gut health and discusses the research behind a healthy gut!
Are books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Vitamized Health by Dr. Petteruti is a book we have all read and reread. We listen to Dr. Amy Shah; she doesn’t have her podcast but is a guest on others; she does gut health research. Jenny does a lot of education with 1st Phorm and uses the 1st Phorm app with her clients. Ed Mylett did a great piece on time management and successful entrepreneurs; Rachel reads many finance/small business profit books; Jenny reads many self-help books. Samantha has been doing her research on how to market effectively.
