Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer & David Davis. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Husband and wife owners of CBD American Shaman at The Legends Outlets. To nutshell our journey before CBD American Shaman, Jennifer was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis just over twenty years ago and David is a combat veteran of the Air Force. Both of these things come with their own set of challenges to day to day life and we were continually on the lookout for ways to improve ourselves and our lives. Several years ago, a friend mentioned that a CBD store had opened near her office. We had tried several other natural products and really hadn’t been impressed with the results. However, we had never heard of CBD and decided to do a little research. There was a whole lot of information out there but it all seemed to be contradictory which made us even more skeptical. We decided though that it couldn’t hurt to just go visit and ask some questions. At the time, we had no idea how much the next thirty minutes would change our lives forever. We were offered a sample of a product called water soluble and within minutes, we were both feeling relief and relaxation that we had never felt before. We were truly impressed and started doing more research on the benefits of hemp and CBD. There was so much more science than we were ever aware of but the more we learned the more interesting it became. Then one day, we stumbled across CBD American Shaman and to our surprise and pleasure, they had just started franchising. All of this seemed like the perfect match. We were passionate about the product and wanted to get involved with bringing the benefits to the general public but didn’t have the knowledge base to start from scratch. We reached out to American Shaman and the rest as they say is history. CBD American Shaman at the Legends Outlets officially opened on Nov. 14, 2019.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
By definition, owning your own business is not a smooth road. Being an entrepreneur means that you are daily addressing issues and resolving problems. However, selling a cannabis product comes with its own additional set of struggles. Perception is often skewed among not just customers but by other businesses and landlords. Banking, credit card processing and lease negotiations delayed us by nearly a year and a half in opening. Additionally, social media and other marketing avenues have limitations on how CBD can be presented and described. We knew there would be additional challenges along the way because of the product that we were selling. We just didn’t know how many more we would encounter. However, we were committed to the product and bringing the benefits to our customers so we addressed each issue one at a time and eventually, we got through them. That doesn’t mean that new things don’t pop up on a daily basis but feel that the knowledge we have and will continue to gain will get us through.

We were only open for five months when COVID hit. Our business was closed and we were sitting at home in complete shock. We had finally gotten here and now this. At five months old, we were already looking inward to make drastic changes to our business plan. We would be lying if we didn’t say that COVID has been the most difficult time of our lives. There came a point however where we just stopped and reminded ourselves that this wasn’t happening to just us. This was happening to everybody in their own differing ways. In an odd way, this gave us the strength and the courage to keep going. We reopened in mid-May with very limited hours and could sit there for days sometimes without seeing a soul. We knew though that people needed us now more than ever. Our customers kept us going. Each and every person that we were able to help was another reason to keep going. We just put our heads down and kept going one day at a time. A year plus later and things still aren’t back to what they once were but they never will be. We are just thankful to still be here and to be able to continue to help people.

Ultimately, luck has taught us to appreciate the moments of success and to be receptive to change and improvement during difficult times. That makes us feel pretty lucky!
