Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Guzman.
Hi Jeff, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I spent 20 years in the U.S. Army before retiring, and as a disabled veteran, I understand firsthand how much mobility and independence matter. After my military career, I saw a gap in the Kansas City market: if you needed a mobility scooter or wheelchair for a visit, an event, or a recovery period, your
options were mostly medical supply stores — paperwork, prescriptions, clinical red tape — or big national call centers where you never talk to the same person twice.
I founded KC Mobility Scooter Rentals in 2023 out of Leavenworth, Kansas, with a simple idea: treat mobility scooter rentals in Kansas City like hospitality, not healthcare. We offer same-day mobility scooter delivery in Kansas City, along with wheelchair rentals, knee scooter rentals, and rollator rentals brought directly to hotels, homes, Airbnbs, and event venues across the Kansas City metro, Lawrence, and Topeka.
What started as a small family operation has grown into a trusted partner for Kansas City’s hospitality scene. We’re now a Visit KC partner, we handle mobility scooter rentals for conventions at the Kansas City Convention Center and other event venues, and we’ve managed fleets of 20+ units with
on-site support for conferences, weddings, and expos. But at its core, it’s still a family-operated business where a real person answers the phone.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, small business road is completely smooth. A few of the challenges we’ve worked through:
Building trust as the new name in town. We launched into a market with established medical supply stores and big national rental brands. Earning our reputation meant winning it one delivery at a time — showing up on time, with the right equipment, fully charged, and walking every customer through
how to use it.
Educating the market. A lot of people searching for a wheelchair or mobility scooter rental near them in Kansas City assume it requires a prescription, insurance approval, or a trip to a medical supply store. A big part of our early work was simply letting people know there’s a no-prescription mobility scooter rental option — call, reserve, and we deliver.
Logistics at scale. Running same-day delivery across a metro area that spans two states, plus routes to Lawrence and Topeka, from a single fleet location takes real coordination — especially on peak weekends like Chiefs home games and convention season. We’ve had to build systems and discipline around routing and scheduling to keep our promises.
Through all of it, the military mindset helped: plan the mission, execute on time, and take care of people.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about KC Mobility Scooter Rentals LLC?
KC Mobility Scooter Rentals is a veteran-owned mobility scooter rental company based in Leavenworth, Kansas, serving the entire Kansas City metro along with Lawrence and Topeka.
Whether you need a mobility scooter rental delivered to your Kansas City hotel, a knee scooter rental after foot or ankle surgery, a heavy-duty mobility scooter for a stadium day, or a wheelchair rental for a Kansas City event, we bring the equipment directly to your hotel, home, Airbnb, or convention venue — including transport chairs and rollators.
What we’re known for:
Same-day mobility scooter delivery in Kansas City. Order by 2 PM and we can usually have equipment to you the same day, delivered, set up, and walked through in person.
Hospitality, not healthcare. We’re a hospitality rental service, not a medical provider. No insurance forms, no prescriptions, no clinical hassle — just simple short-term and long-term mobility scooter rentals, from one day to several months.
A real person answers the phone. No automated menus, no ticket systems. When you call, you reach someone who knows your rental, your equipment, and your situation.
Event and convention fleets. We handle bulk mobility scooter rentals for Kansas City conventions, trade shows, conferences, weddings, and corporate gatherings — including fleets of 20+ units with dedicated on-site support and a single point of contact.
What sets us apart:
We’re Kansas City’s only company exclusively dedicated to mobility rentals. Unlike medical supply stores, rentals aren’t a side business for us — they’re the whole business. And unlike national call-center operations, we’re local and accountable: the same family that takes your call delivers your equipment.
What we’re most proud of:
The moments our equipment makes possible. We’ve had customers tell us that, for the first time in 20 years, their dad could join the family through museums and parks. Others have left handwritten thank-you notes in the scooter basket at pickup. That’s the whole reason we do this — helping visitors rent a mobility scooter to explore Kansas City attractions like Union Station, the Country Club Plaza, and the World War I Museum, or helping locals fully experience a family celebration or simply their own neighborhood, regardless of mobility challenges.
What does success mean to you?
Success for us isn’t measured in rental volume — it’s measured in days given back. When a grandmother can go to her granddaughter’s wedding, when a visitor with limited mobility can enjoy a Chiefs game at Arrowhead or the Plaza Lights instead of watching from the hotel, when someone with a scooter rental for surgery recovery can get to the grocery store on their own — that’s success. If our equipment showed up on time, worked flawlessly, and someone got to be fully present for a day they’ll remember, we did our job.
