Inspiring Conversations with Jamie Donaldson and Ashley Hess of Juniper Lane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Donaldson and Ashley Hess.

Hi Jamie and Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Juniper Lane started from a love for shopping.

Ashley and I have been friends for years and we always loved finding small shops and local businesses to shop at. We had talked off and on for years about starting our own company and what that would look like but never really took the leap. Finally, in 2020, an opportunity arose for us and we jumped at it!

We opened our doors Last March of 2021 and it has been an amazing year. We have loved bringing our personalities and unique decor to our town and the support we have received from family, friends, and our local and KC shoppers have been just the best.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our first year in business has been met with lots of support but we have also had to deal with the giant shipping issues every business has faced this past year. That along with supply shortages and Covid has really given us A LOT to learn and made us figure out how to be both flexible and resilient at the same time.

We always joke when it gets hard that if we can make it through all of these obstacles we can make it through anything.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a small boutique home decor shop that is focused on fun and unique finds that help bring personality and style into your home.

Our styles are a mix of eclectic, boho, modern and traditional so clients are able to find something they love no matter what style they have. We love hosting seasonal shopping events and teaming up with other local businesses to create an experience for our customers that is both fun and memorable.

We also offer interior design services for our customers and can provide a quick room refresh or full custom designs based on our client’s needs.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Owning a business is a big risk in itself. I think as a company we really try not to view our choices as risks. We definitely understand there is an inherent risk in all of our decisions but really we allow our intuition and style to drive our choices.

We are always asking ourselves what we want to see and experience as a shopper and how we can create that for our customers. I think that going this route takes away the scary “what if” mindset and allows us to just do what we love.
