Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilary Embry.
Hi Hilary, Thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I was the friend who did everyone’s hair for school dances. I always loved doing hair and would spend my free time trying different styles on myself and my friends. I decided to take extra courses to graduate high school a year early so that I could go to cosmetology school before starting college. I took business classes for one semester in college and quickly decided I did not want to own a business. Fast forward about 8 years, which was a natural career progression. I had been working at a hair salon without any real management, so I had a lot of responsibilities for the business without any ownership. I decided to go out on my own and open a small salon, which I called my “starter home.” I was wondering if I was going to enjoy it. After 3 successful years in my first business, owning a business was right for me. So, I found a larger space, rebranded, and opened the doors to Halcyon Studio. It’s been stressful, exciting, and so much more work than I ever imagined, but I absolutely love it.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs throughout my career. Covid was a huge bump in the road, as it was for so many. My business succeeded throughout the pandemic and has continued to thrive in recent years.
As you know, we’re big fans of Halcyon Studio. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
Halcyon Studio is a full-service hair salon. We have several artists with different specialties. What sets us apart from other salons is the variety of services we offer, from weddings and special events to everyday looks. Our main goal is for everyone who walks through the door to instantly feel comfortable, like they’re walking into a friend’s house, and to leave feeling like their absolute best self.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Can you share something that might surprise us?
This might not surprise me, but my work is also my favorite hobby. I love doing hair, and I love to be creative. I took the opportunity to turn my passion into a career and then opened a business based on my passion.
