Inspiring Conversations with Heather Eichman of Dahlia Trauma & Wellness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Eichman.

Hi Heather, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my own solo therapy practice in 2019. This was always a professional goal of mine. Much of my career prior was working in the social work field in various capacities, in addition to practicing therapy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it has been smooth! The struggles were at the beginning. It is a big leap to open your own business and I would ask myself, “Is this the right time to do this?” or “What if I don’t succeed?” I am so grateful I trusted myself. This has been such a rewarding era in my career.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a solo practitioner, specializing in treating trauma-related issues, narcissistic injury, and addiction. Treating these particular issues using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and Brainspotting sets my practice apart from others. I have many clients in the Lawrence and Kansas City areas who seek my services out specifically for those treatment interventions and clients heal quicker using these methods. I am so proud to be part of others’ wellness journeys and to watch them become stronger literally before my eyes.

I also will often have my Psychiatric Support Dog, Lilah with me during sessions. She provides warmth and comfort to the sessions. She has become a client favorite since I adopted her in 2024.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My clients! I have the privilege of working with some of the most resilient and incredible individuals. The professional relationships I have built with them have been so special to me. I have learned far more from my clients than I ever have in a classroom. I also give credit to my husband, my son and daughter. They were my cheerleaders when I was nervous of taking the leap to go solo.
