Inspiring Conversations with Erika Jenkins of Queen Bee Customs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Jenkins.

Erika Jenkins

Hi Erika, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started my journey as a business owner back in 2008. The company was then called Queen Bee Jewelry. We focus on handmade and hand-strung jewelry of all types. I wanted more out of the business and wanted to expand. In 2022, we decided to change it up and become a boutique. We have been growing and offering fashion since! The jewelry side of the business has expanded as well. We now carry authentic handmade southwestern Turquoise and sterling pieces. We also offer a wide range of other gemstones. We pride ourselves on being different and unique!

Can you tell us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth?
Any business owner will tell you that there are lots of ups and downs. You had an excellent week. You’re trying to pay your bills one minute, and the next, you’re having trouble. It’s a balancing act and a huge daily challenge!

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Queen Bee Customs?
We are known for standing out and not being a cookie-cutter boutique. We offer many fashions and jewelry to suit the person looking to be different. I always hear that I love everything you offer; it’s so different from everyone else! That’s exactly what we strive to do here at Queen Bee Customs. We are proud to offer our Native American-made turquoise jewelry to the Midwest. You don’t see much of it in Kansas or Missouri, so it’s essential to me to share this art with the world in any way I can! We have so many handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces in jewelry that you can certainly satisfy your jewelry tastes. I want women to come to Queen Bee and let themselves shine. Just be themselves here, and there is no judgment!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Owning a business is a big risk-financial, personal, professional, all in one! So, just putting yourself out there publicly is risky. I know I’m a risk-taker, and that’s sometimes hard, but you have to achieve your dreams. You can’t sit back, watch your life go by, and wonder what could have been. I may fail, but at least I did everything possible and tried my hardest!
