Hi Emily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a relatively new player to most, but I picked up the game fast. I was taught by my mom and sisters. Once I learned I was hooked and knew I would love to teach others!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business is hard. My mom told me that, but I never believed it. Although hard, it’s been so much fun! I’ve met so many people who have become friends and it’s brought me closer to my sister, Susie, who also teaches mahjong.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the founder and sole owner of KC Mahjong Mama. I started in June 2025. I specialize in hosting parties or events for mahjong. It can be a 101 class, guided play or just hosting open play. I feel I set myself apart because I want this to be fun! Games are supposed to be fun! I want to always bring the energy that this is all a fun game to learn and it really challenges your brian.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was getting to play games with my parents. We were huge fans of crazy 8’s, Monopoly and The Game of Life.
