Inspiring Conversations with Emily Carter of Moonchild Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Carter.

Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
So from the time I was about 10 I always told everyone I wanted to be a dermatologist, given that they help people recover from acne which I had struggled with and I never wanted anyone to have to face that feeling alone. And this was definitely a real dream of mine for the longest honestly. But as I got a little older-tradition school seemed more and more like it didn’t collide with my creativity. So I actually took a gap year after I graduated highschool to try and navigate what it is I might want to do, well naturally that means I then spent the following year at jccc trying to pursue an education in psychology. I wanted to find a different angle of helping others, I knew it was my purpose but unfortunately school still wasn’t for me in that form. I started venturing out to look into the esthetician programs near me and once I walked into the one I chose-I could feel everything that made me who i am just click all into place. Like I could finally see where my journey was meant to go. This is where realized I can combine my love of skin healing and a form of therapy together as one. And after school I decided to go solo and start my own business to give people a relaxed environment to heal their skin + spirit.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worth the while is easy or smooth-and I accepted this fate when I began my solo journey. I fortunately have an amazing support system and village and my family at Eastwick that made this crazy caterpillar to butterfly experience really amazing for me. In the very beginning and really only up until recently it was difficult to just get my name out there, to get noticed and to feel confident enough in my skills to gain clientele.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is created as a safe space for you to come to as a retreat from the loud noise of day to day life, somewhere you know you can go to and feel like you can finally take that deep exhale and all the sudden that loud noise is a quiet hum and a soft breath. I specialize in healing facials, whether that be through sound bath healing during the treatment, oracle + affirmational readings, tarot readings, guided breathwork and aromatherapy, or a skin service that simply offers visible results.
I know that my interests held value in my treatment room, i.e tarot and oracle readings, sound baths, crystals, etc. not just because i love them but because before i even became an esthetician, i was using those tools to help guide people through the difficulties of life. So the fact i can combine them is much more powerful and beautiful.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I find a lot of education and informational skills from the skincare brand I carry offers, circadia is the brand I use primarily and they have the most amazing team and great online education opportunities. I also find the most effective inspiration comes from other seasoned estheticians.
The way you provide for your clients, the techniques you use, the way you apply products, things of that sort.
