Today we’d like to introduce you to Dena Saunders
Hi Dena, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2021 we moved to a small 5 acre plot of land after experiencing the pandemic and looking for a lifestyle change for our growing family. At the time, this plan didn’t include the words “farm, flowers, or homestead”. We simply wanted more space and less noise. It didn’t take long for my brain to be permanently altered by the dirt in a small raised garden bed.
I threw some clearance seeds from the Dollar General into an existing raised garden bed and grew my first flowers (ever). Within 4 years we have expanded to 2000 sq foot fenced in vegetable garden and 3000 sq feet of flowers with over 20 varieties of cut flowers.
We can’t forget the greenhouse built from scratch with recycled windows and the whole flock of chickens, ducks and Mother Goose Jolene.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggles? Never heard of it. Life is about perspective.
What we experienced is learning…. and boy have we learned. We have learned to grow, fail, build, pivot, grow some more, problem solve, take risk, step back, and mostly….. GROW.
We’ve been impressed with Triple S Homestead, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a growing Flower Farm with plans to offer flower bouquet subscription packages, grab and go flowers from local shops, U-Pick and other private events, as well as offering our field of blooms for photography.
I love these flowers and love to share them. I have met so many amazing people through our work and can’t wait to host events in the field this Summer and bring joy to those who wish to experience the blooms.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Determination and eagerness to learn. Hands down the most essential qualities to help me this far building our flower farm.
