Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire V. Brisson-Banks.
Hi Claire V., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story begins with faith and a deep love for family history. While living in Rhode Island, I was inspired by the Lord to move to South Jordan, Utah, in 2003. Once there, I began working for a genealogical firm when I felt inspired by the Lord to start my own business. I remember sitting in our car, speaking to Him, saying I would do it—if He gave me the name. Not long after, Robert Quintin called to say he was dying and wanted me to help sell his materials with his sons. I didn’t even have a website yet, but I flew to Rhode Island, shook hands with him and his sons, and made the commitment. The Lord gave me the name “Timeless Genealogies,” and in March 2005, I launched the business.
In September 2014, I moved to Independence, Missouri, again under inspiration from the Lord. Since then, I’ve continued to grow Timeless Genealogies through virtual and in-person lectures, blogging, social media outreach, and volunteering to help different genealogical groups. I’ve just completed my doctorate while continuing to conduct research for clients, always striving to make genealogy accessible, meaningful, and collaborative. Every step has been guided by purpose, trust, and a desire to honor the legacy, helping all to find their ancestral families.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but it’s been a guided one. When we moved to South Jordan, Utah, I had to build a reputation from scratch—finding work, making connections, and earning trust in a new place. I was blessed to work at the Family History Library, my dream job, for nine years. There, I took professional courses—including “Teaching the Teachers”—and gained hands-on experience that shaped me into a confident researcher, lecturer, and educator. During that time, I earned my accreditation in genealogy and completed my Master’s degree in Library Science and Computer Science.
I also worked for Incline Software, assisting individuals with Ancestral Quest in their family history journeys. That role provided me with insight, experience, and relationships that helped me launch Timeless Genealogies.
There were times when technology evolved faster than I could adapt, or when juggling client research, speaking engagements, and academic work stretched me thin. Completing my doctorate while continuing to serve clients was a major undertaking. But through it all—with each client and every research journey—I’ve learned so much and leaned on inspiration, resilience, and faith.
The lesson is clear: there is no task too difficult, no job too much, and no research too complex for our Lord’s inspiration to reach us and aid us throughout the journey.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Timeless Genealogies is more than a business—it’s a calling. We specialize in ancestral and forensic genealogy, historical preservation, and educational outreach. I work with families to uncover their roots, translate and interpret historical records, and guide them through the process of understanding their heritage. I’m primarily known for making all types of documents accessible and meaningful, and for helping clients discover stories they never knew existed.
What sets us apart is the spiritual foundation of our work. This business was born out of inspiration, and every project is approached with reverence, precision, and passion. My time at the Family History Library—my dream job—provided me with the training and experience necessary to become a professional researcher and educator. Over the course of nine years, I took advanced classes, including “Teaching the Teachers,” earned my Master’s degrees in Library Science and Computer Science, and became accredited in my field. That foundation continues to shape everything I do.
I also worked for Incline Software, assisting individuals with Ancestral Quest in their family history journeys. That role provided me with insight, experience, and relationships that helped me launch Timeless Genealogies and connect with clients in meaningful ways.
I’m most proud of the trust clients place in me. One client shared, “There were many stories you discovered that I never knew existed about my ancestor, and these stories bring them to life. They help me understand why they did the things they did and the lives they led—and have opened doors to further research in finding out more about other ancestral relatives.” That’s the kind of impact I strive for: not just uncovering names and dates, but breathing life into legacy.
Timeless Genealogies is dedicated to honoring legacies, empowering learning, and making family history accessible to all. We offer research services, translation, education, and heartfelt collaboration—and improve photos as they are discovered. Every story matters—and we’re here to help you find yours.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Absolutely—there’s always something new to learn, and I love that. I regularly watch webinars on topics that spark my curiosity, whether it’s new methods for handling genealogical research or emerging tools like artificial intelligence. These sessions keep me sharp and open to innovation, helping me refine my workflow and stay current in a rapidly evolving field.
I also turn to scholarly journals, professional blogs, and podcasts that explore history, archival practices, and faith-based leadership. My time at the Family History Library instilled a deep respect for continuing education, and I still carry that forward—whether it’s through formal courses or informal learning moments.
Digital tools play a huge role in my work. I utilize platforms such as Ancestral Quest, Ancestry, MyHeritage, Geneanet, FamilySearch, Find A Grave, Find My Past, FamilySearch.org, Newspaper.com, and Google to conduct research, verify sources, and uncover hidden stories. I also use Facebook and Substack to connect with communities, share discoveries, and stay engaged with the latest developments in genealogy and education.
Above all, I rely on prayer and spiritual guidance. That’s the resource that never fails. Whether I’m preparing a lecture, translating a document, or helping a client uncover a miracle story, I know I’m not doing it alone.
