Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara McKinzy.
Hi Ciara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to make some type of impact in the world or in my community and being a single mother and just a woman in general…I know at times we don’t always think of ourselves we put everyone Before Us first and by doing that we tend to lose ourselves in the process. I originally started in 2014 with an accessory line the help of my mom we were selling accessories to women all over and custom bamboo earrings and at that time I had no idea on how to even run a business I just knew I wanted to provide a product that made women feel good and mothers feel good about themselves. We were even fortunate enough to have our accessories worn on oxygen TV show the bad girls club by a former bad girl club member so that was really exciting! But again, as I stated I had no idea on how to run a business or to manage the money that was coming in from the business this was our biggest downfall, and though I had the vision I was not able to execute it so here I was again a single mother of four back at square one… Fast forward to 2017 I met a really great man that seen potential in me and the vision I had for myself and the brand that I wanted to create. He pushed and motivated me to start back up again and that is how Ciara Jonee’ Boutique was started! And I was super excited to see where it would take me! I knew this time around I could not fail.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road for me. On Some days I feel like I take two steps forward on other days I feel like I get knocked back 5 steps back. When running a business There can always be some type of form of self-doubt or being unsure if the customers will come Or even if it’s worth it at times but I will say this it’s possible if you’re willing to put in the time and energy that it takes to build your brand and you stand behind your bringing in what you believe in the people will come and sometimes it’s not all about the money it’s about those customers that you get the emails from there thanking you and they love the products or the items that you are selling it’s about the repeat customers that will spend their hard earned money with you every time you put something new out it’s about being able to pass down something to my children I never want them to work as hard or to struggle in life. Just now anything is possible if you have an idea or a business venture you want to start do it just do it it’s a simple as that.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I would say what I love about our city is that when it’s time to come out and support one another we definitely do that in the community!
What I dislike If I’m being honest is the amount of violence that goes on. I believe Kansas City can be super amazing there is so much talent and potential here but I think for some they get in their own way at times!
