Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Dangerfield.
Hi Cheryl, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t plan on starting a business. My story began when I went to work for a doctor and his wife in their home. He was still working, and she needed extra help with the things she couldn’t do anymore. I became their house manager and did a little bit of everything inside and outside the home. With my healthcare background, helping people came naturally, so stepping in to support them felt like second nature.
Helping Hand On Demand grew out of that experience. Other families began asking me for help, and at first, I did it all, companionship, errands, administrative work, and support in whatever way they needed. Over time, I noticed the greatest need was with downsizing and decluttering. Seniors and their families were overwhelmed by the decisions, the memories, and the emotional weight that comes with letting go.
That’s where my focus shifted. Today, I walk seniors and their families step by step through the process. What makes my work different is that it isn’t just about clearing a space. It’s about honoring memories, moving at their pace, and making the process safer and less stressful. I don’t haul things away. I sit with people in the decisions, helping them sort through a lifetime piece by piece, with dignity.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had no experience in business when I started. I didn’t even know what I didn’t know. I had to learn marketing, contracts, billing, and time management one step at a time.
Another big challenge was trying to be who everyone else thought I should be. That held me back for a long time. Once I trusted the way God wired me, led with my heart, and showed up as myself every time, things began to change. My faith gives me the courage to keep going when I don’t have all the answers.
As you know, we’re big fans of Helping Hand on Demand . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Helping Hand On Demand is all about helping seniors and their families with downsizing and decluttering. A lot of people think it’s just about getting rid of stuff, but it’s really about the memories, the emotions, and the tough decisions that come with a lifetime of belongings.
What makes my work different is simple: when you call Helping Hand On Demand, you get me. You get my sensitivity, my compassion, and my heart for walking people through this process with dignity. I’m not sending a team of strangers. I’m the one sitting beside you, step by step, helping you decide what stays and what goes, and making the process feel a little less heavy.
I’m proud that families know they can count on me to not just clear out space, but to honor their stories while we do it.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew in a small town where everybody knew everybody. We were a farming family, with livestock.
My favorite thing was to ride my horse to the back of the pasture, stand on his back and pick berries from the tree. I took a split second to “clean” them on my shirt before pooping them in my mouth.
I was outgoing and didn’t know a stranger. My dad likes to tell how I would walk up to someone and tell them they were going to be my friend. I guess that sass has helped me a long the way.
