Today we’d like to introduce you to Chalise Minnenhall.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always known for as long as I can remember that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I had so many things I was passionate about, so it took a while for me to decide which interest I wanted to pursue first, but I kept a journal of my many ideas where I was constantly brainstorming. Eventually, I thought to myself, I spend so much time at home and I know many other people who do as well, so why not start in the home? I can remember in my early high school days I had plans to start a business making pillows. Why pillows? I thought pillows were a relatively simple way to really bring together and elevate a room. So many sizes, patterns, and textures to be played around with that would all convey different messages about the room. Being young and not knowing the first thing about business, the idea of running a company seemed like an idea so implausible. Fast forward several years to being in college and my love for transforming spaces hadn’t dwindled. At school, my dorm consisted of 4 white walls, a desk, a chair, a dresser, and an overhead fluorescent light. As much as I loved pillows, no amount of them could turn that space into somewhere I would be happy with being in every day. I went on the hunt for lamps, rugs, curtains, and wall decor. I even rearranged the furniture. I was willing to do anything to transform the space into one I loved. I would then visit home and see even more projects I could take on. My weekend trips home suddenly consisted of runs to home improvement stores to buy paint and hardware fixtures and redoing things around the house. Soon, I had other people I knew seeking me out to help make decisions about what to do with their homes. Eventually, I realized designing homes was what I loved to do, so I decided to pursue it full-time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a relatively new business owner, I have constantly faced challenges. Although I had a passion for interior design and experience, I hadn’t the first clue about how to run a business. I quickly had to learn the many skills necessary to both launch it and keep it running. On top of being an interior designer, I suddenly had to become a graphic designer, a web designer, photographer, accountant, social media manager, and digital marketer. Even after learning these skills, I had to figure out the required tailoring I would need to do for my specific business needs. However, being a business owner, you must be sure of yourself. You equip yourself with the tools you need or seek assistance and you get to it. I value the challenges I’ve already faced and I welcome those yet to come. They all play a role in pushing me and making me even better than I was before.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Whether you’re young, old, a professional, retired, married, single, a parent, have disabilities, are a homeowner, or a renter, you deserve to love your personal space. A lot of times updating a space to be more modern can result in the space feeling cold and impersonal, but that’s what we avoid. Our goal is to create spaces that are luxurious and modern, yet still comfortable. Your home should be beautiful, but still, actually feel like a home. I appreciate the genuine relationships that are formed with clients through the design process being collaborative. We believe there is something for everyone. We provide virtual services, small space design, rental friendly design, new build design, custom work, and much more.
What are your plans for the future?
There are several upcoming plans for the future. An important and meaningful one is currently underway and we can’t wait to formally announce it.
