Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Herrera
Hi Camille, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Plume so that I could bring custom, luxury bridal gowns to Kansas City. I have wanted to have my own shop since… I don’t know when! Opening a shop for my dress designs is a natural progression for my buisness. I needed to expand out of my spare bedroom at some point, and the opportunity presented itself, so I went for it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve faced a lot of obstacles in my design journey and professional career, but opening Plume Bridal has gone rather smoothly! I like to think that there is a right time for everything, so the fact that I have had so little resistance at this point in my story is reassuring that I’m on the right path in life.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Plume Bridal is a unique bridal experience specializing in creating one of a kind, couture quality gowns. I meet with brides during a private consultation and interpret their bridal inspiration, wants, and needs to design a sketch of their dream dress. From there we create the gown and have several fittings with the bride during the process to ensure a perfect fit.
Having a designer on site is something that sets Plume apart from other bridal shops because our brides are able to customize in every way imaginable, making their gowns truely unique to their personality. Brides come in knowing this is the last bridal shop they will visit!
I also carry a varietly of gowns for bridesmaids, prom/homecoming, and other formal designs. All made to measure. I carefully source all textiles from small retailers all over the globe, but I am most proud to say that all gowns are made in house. Keeping labor in house helps ensure that money stays within the local economy and continues to local support small buisness.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel that staying true to the Plume vision will always be important for its success. Brides don’t visit Plume for the same old dress shopping, they come for a customized and collaborative experience, and thats what we provide. All while creating an inviting and inclusive environment for all types of people.
