Inspiring Conversations with Brenda Dunbar of Savvy Bawse Beauti Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Dunbar.

Hi Brenda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started doing hair at the age of 11. It was a passion I would practice with my family and friends, and at the age of 13 I was doing more hair, and people had heard of me by word of mouth. I decided I’m 2013 to be passionate about hair and attend Marniello Beauty School. After school, I started working and a salon space I set up in my sister’s home. Still, I wasn’t getting the clientele I needed, so I decided to go to a salon where I stayed for a couple of months, but I still wasn’t getting what I needed, so I walked away from hair for about 2 years. After working a regular job, I still had a passion for hair inside of me, so I started working for a new salon, but I just wasn’t getting what I needed, so I returned to work full time.

But in 2018, I decided to start my own brand Savvy Bawse where I started selling hair bundles and wigs. It was steady for a while, but I was missing the passion of doing hair, so in 2020 Savvy Bawse Beauti Bar was born. It’s been upped down with owning my own business, but I get up every day and give it my all because putting a smile on someone’s face when they leave my chair is something I love to do.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggle I had was not trusting the process where I wanted it all to happen right now without putting in the work. There are days I will have a full schedule, and other days I don’t have one; and it used to frustrate me to want to stop, but now I show up every day.

We’ve been impressed with Savvy Bawse Beauti Bar, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Savvy Bawse Beauti Bar is a salon for women. We specialize in giving women an atmosphere to relax and be pampered. I am known for my wigs and braids. What sets me apart from others is I provide my clients with what they want and need all in one because sometimes they don’t always know what’s good for their hair. Savvy Bawse is a brand that offers smiles with our salon services. My favorite words for my salon are “Walk in one way and Walk out a Bawse’!!
