Today we’d like to introduce you to Blanca Esthela Mayorga Sandoval.
Hi Blanca Esthela , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Starting our journey was never easy. In fact, our journey began long before I knew what it meant to create a path. First I was a daughter, that’s when my journey really began. My own mother at a young age showed me everything I know and have today. Before I knew what it meant to support my family, she showed me the true determination that became an even greater perseverance. My mother taught me that willpower, courage and love can push you forward. At a young age, my mother attended her taco stand in our hometown in Mexico. That was his way of showing me how real work would not only provide a meal for our family, but eventually provide for the one I created. From living in Mexico, to San Diego, and then Gridley, CA, I would make an effort to make a living selling tacos at a price of $1 per taco at that time! Our lives consisted of seasonal work in the fields, harvesting nuts, peaches, etc. From time to time, to make ends meet, I sold everything, from churros, Antojitos, tacos and more. Most of our efforts went into door-to-door sales. My eldest daughter of 6, Clarissa, was my backbone at that time, since she helped me with everything and anything. This was from 2004-2015 until we moved to Topeka. Finally, after having made the decision to move here, I scarified what was a period of more than 2 years of doubles and extra shifts to save for what I had always dreamed of, a business. A business, a purpose, the very essence that would keep my family and me going. Lupita’s Tacos is more than just a business; we are a family, we are the love of generations ago that made us what we are today. My mother (Sarah) always knew her abilities and abilities that, however, made me want to try harder for my family in the same way as she did.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of our biggest struggles long before our business came to be was losing my beloved daughter, a sister and most importantly a friend. Throughout the many struggles and trials through out our lives, we have chosen to keep faith close and family even closer. Since having opened our business and open arms to our community we have received an abundance of support and encouragement from everyone around. With the bumps in the road, from losing my beloved daughter and striving for a better tomorrow we have had the opportunity to meet and share our experiences and stories that bring all of us together. I wanted to share a quote that my daughter passionately lived by, “To make a friend, you have to be one”.
As we fight everyday to keep seeing the rainbow after the storm we hope to be a shoulder, a friend, but most importantly a family that shared love.

What were you like growing up?
During my childhood I enjoyed being with my family, going to fiestas, playing volleyball during our hometown tournaments. As a little girl my family would spend sometimes our entire day at “el salto” a very known and famous waterfall in my hometown. We would spend in not the entire day enjoying the water and atmosphere, we would spend it on the sidelines selling tacos at my moms taco stand. Here is where my mother taught me to cook and sell to make a living for me and siblings. She chose everyday to preserve through all the hardships and pain with being a young widowed mother of 6.
