Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelo Banks.
Hi Angelo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I grew up a single child from Salina, KS. I have raised in my grandparent’s basement with my mother. Growing up, I was not the best kid, but I was a three-sport athlete and graduated on time. Once I graduated, I immediately moved to Kansas City, where I worked and went to Johnson County Community College part-time. That lasted a short while before my parents decided my grades were insufficient for them to keep helping me. So, I joined the Air Force. During my ten years with the Air Force, I married, had two kids, deployed multiple times, and won several highly honored awards. Once my second term was up, I wanted to spend more time with my children, so I went to law school. I left the Air Force on a Friday and was a law school student that Monday morning. After law school, I bounced around from a few jobs that taught me a lot, but after a while, I got tired of billing hours for somebody else. I had learned enough to go out independently because nobody was teaching me anything anyway. So, I started Banks Law Firm.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
I started way better than I thought I would. I took a crazy gamble on myself, and I believe I won. I have had some setbacks here and there, but nothing has made me want to go back to what I was doing before. My main struggles have been trying to keep up with being a businessman. The attorney part has been fairly easy, but being a businessman from my background has been tough.
As you know, we’re big fans of Banks Law Firm. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand?
Banks Law Firm is a family law firm that wants to take on a role in being there for amicable family issues. Our goal is to start getting away from people who want to be petty with each other. We want clients who want to figure out their situation and what is best for their children. People who cannot understand how important both parents are to a child frustrate me more than anything. We will take on some non-amicable cases, but we want our clients to realize the difference between real safety and concern issues and just being petty and trying to control others. That is a tough distinction for some people, and it does cause issues for families who are trying to give their children a peaceful life. We were really founded on being authentic to our clients and not sugarcoating how family law issues work. Many attorneys will tell people what they want to hear so that they can get a retainer and then go on to tell them what is going to happen. At Banks Law Firm, we tell people the reality of their case from the moment they have a consultation with us. If the person cannot handle the reality of what could happen, then that person probably does not want us to represent them. We wanted to be different in that aspect because we wished our people not to focus on the outcome of their case. We wanted them to understand how and why the court system works. We want them to know what to look for in the present and future, whatever their issues are.
I am proud to be that attorney for people. I am proud to tell someone the realities of family law and that I would rather be turned away for telling the truth rather than hired because of some false hope I could have sold to you. That builds better relationships with people and ultimately builds the brand. I am here to answer any questions that people have about family law. I like to discuss issues. I am a risk taker. I started my firm with about $1,200.00. I had just bought a home and had two kids to support. I was moving into my first-ever home the same week BLF opened for business, and I had a mortgage to pay in 45 days. I had no idea what would happen, but I was willing to gamble on myself. People must understand that if you want to enter into a business you or your family do not have any background in, that is a 100% risk. You are jumping off a cliff without training or knowledge of what is under you. I have had to guess and check on my life for the last two years, and I am blessed to have kept myself afloat.
