Inspiring Conversations with Andrew King of Sam’s Turf care and Royal Lawn Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew King.

Hi Andrew, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started mowing my neighbor’s lawn at 13 years old. I just turned 40 this year and have expand a lot recently. I bought a second lawn business 5 years ago to ad to our service offering and expand our reach. We went from mowing that one lawn to 25 plus employees every summer. Our main focus is Sam’s turf care who provides fertilization weed control and exterior pest services in the greater metro area. We have built a great team over the last couple years so we can provide top notch service to all of our thousands of customers across the city.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely been a bumpy road. I really struggled for quite a few years until I joined a lawn care peer and consolation group that helped me break through the many roadblocks involved in owning and operating a home service business. That group helped me grow from 500k a year to over 3 million this year. One of that other main struggles we faced people. We have been able to find hire and retain great people over that last couple years and that is the only way we have been able to grown effectively.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sam’s Turf care and Royal Lawn Service?
Royal Lawn service is my original company. We provide mowing, irrigation maintenance, landscape maintenance, Christmas lights, and commercial snow removal. What sets us apart is our team. We strive everyday to help our customers enjoy there yard while having more time to do so.

Sam’s Turf Care is the business I bought 5 years ago from Sam Dyer. Sam’s has been in business since 1985. WE are know for our quality of work which is achieved by our dedication to training and retaining the best technicians in the city. This biggest thing that sets us apart is while every other descent size fertilizer and weed control company in town is selling to private equity we have stayed true to being a local family owned company that answers the phone and provides the very highest level of customer service.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love our city. The people is what makes our city great. Everyone that I know that comes to visit complements us on how nice and accepting everyone is. Second is the culture. Everything KC is awesome from BBQ to sports to all the small individual towns around with there own identity and special offerings.
