Hidden Gems: Meet Xtreme Wrestling Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Xtreme Wrestling Center. They share their story with us below:

The Xtreme Wrestling Center was founded in 2014 by “Smooth As Satin” David Cattin, Jordan Rogers, and Adam Houck with a vision of reviving and restoring an active wrestling community in the Kansas City area. David and Adam both brought years of backyard wrestling as teens and professional training to the team, while Jordan brought the business aspect and technology that it takes to run behind the scenes.

Over a year of searching led to the discovery of the current home of the XWC, a location that had sat vacant for over 20 years! Through a lot of sweat equity, this place was transformed into the training facility it is today.

Starting with two students, the Center has grown to graduate more than 70 through our program over the course of 8 years. XWC has survived rival schools opening and closing while navigating the pitfalls of COVID, managing to get graduates signed to both WWE and AEW in the process.

Could you explain for a moment about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly has not been a smooth road 100% of the time. Finding our location in Raytown took an entire year of looking and multiple attempts at contracts at other buildings. Covid presented a huge obstacle, particularly in an in-person contact-type setting.

Handling covid restrictions, mandates, and health sanctions while still attempting to provide adequate training presented a unique hurdle. Students and trainers continued to fall ill during the height of the pandemic and there were even times when we had to completely pause classes temporarily.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Professional Wrestling is about more than just physical ability, it’s about being professional, learning every aspect of the business, and getting discovered. Our training program is designed to build a total package that excels both in the ring and in front of the camera at a price point that doesn’t break the bank. Our professional team of trainers works actively in the independent wrestling industry and is led by Head Trainer “Smooth as Satin” David Cattin. By valuing Safety, Discipline, and Respect, we instill a strong work ethic and good values in our students that make them valued workers throughout the Midwest. Our students and graduates have competed in WWE, AEW, KCXW, MWA, SICW, MEW, Impact Pro, Metro Pro, CCW, GPW, WPW, NEW, WFC, and NWL, and traveled as far out as Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Kansas, and New York to showcase their skills. You may have seen a couple of our students on national TV like Amari Miller, Dean Alexander, or Ryan Gingell.

In addition to our regular training staff, The XWC routinely brings in veterans and stars from the professional wrestling world for special training seminars. Guys like JC Thunder, Bob Evans, Donovan Dijak, Angel Medina, Mike Bennett, Chris Masters, and Histeria Jr have provided their unique abilities to our students through special training sessions. These sessions allow our students a more exclusive learning environment to fine-tune their skills in ways that help set them apart from other wrestlers across the country.

Building the wrestlers of tomorrow is the ultimate goal of the Xtreme Wrestling Center. Most pro wrestling schools are priced out of range for many people wishing to learn the craft, but the XWC’s training program is constructed with the working person’s time and budget in mind! We are determined to keep our prices affordable, while still providing valuable training skills that you can take with you to any promotion.

We also believe it’s important to take time out of our lives to give back to the community. While we have volunteered and held benefit shows in previous years, this year we started an initiative to do one philanthropic mission each month, whether that be volunteering, donating, or fundraising.

XWC has helped boost multiple other local businesses as well. We are currently the home of Safe Haven Fitness, a full-service fitness coach.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Starting out as a professional wrestler, there is nothing more important than cardio.

You’ll be amazed how much work your body needs to do to pull off even the simplest moves against an opponent, and you need the gas to keep going for ten, sometimes twenty minutes in that ring. You don’t have to have a bodybuilder physique in wrestling, but you absolutely need to be in solid condition for your body to be successful.

Pricing:

  • Tryouts $30
  • Daily Practice Rate $25
  • Weekly Practice Rate $60
  • Monthly Practice Rate $200
