Hidden Gems: Meet Topeka Vendors Market

Today we’d like to introduce you to Topeka Vendors Market.

Hello Topeka Vendors Market; so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The Topeka Vendors Market began in 2020. The vision for the market was (and is) to build and strengthen the local community. This would be accomplished by encouraging local makers and entrepreneurs to realize their dreams, providing a space to make their dreams a reality. Moreover, strengthen our local economy by encouraging our community to support small businesses by shopping locally. Likewise, the original owners envisioned seeing the area of downtown Topeka (where the market is positioned) to be developed and improved. The owner shares the same vision and is working to make this area an up-and-coming destination!

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Topeka Vendors Market opened during a pandemic, so some challenges have occurred. However, even amidst that circumstance, the community has been good to us and has supported us as we’ve continued to build this business. Some struggles we continue to have are reaching the public, getting our name on the map, and dealing with a challenging economy. With that said, Topeka is truly an incredible community, and we have felt their support and encouragement along the way. We know they want to support small businesses, which is obviously our passion. When you shop at the Topeka Vendors Market, you’re not supporting just one business; you’re supporting over 100 small, local businesses! That should be incredibly exciting for those who love shopping locally!

We’ve been impressed with The Topeka Vendors Market, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
The Topeka Vendors Market is what it sounds like. It’s a market that is comprised of an array of local vendors. The market helps small shops to make their dream a reality by providing a space for their business while handling the specifics so that vendors can focus on their “craft” and keep their shops full. It’s unique because it’s a one-stop-shop that allows you to explore over 100 small businesses in one place, so you can “shop small” in a big way! Being home to over 100 vendors and artisans, featuring unique goods including (but not limited to) furniture, decor, vintage items, antiques, eclectic collectibles, and craft/hobby supplies, obviously creates an exciting shopping environment! We also have a cafe at the front of the market that provides a space for people to sit and enjoy a coffee, snack, or meal while they shop. It’s a lovely, quiet atmosphere for meetings and work. Moreover, we host numerous events outside our regular business hours that help bring the community together! Overall, we’re proud of the culture the market has created and how it allows the community to invest in itself by supporting small businesses!

Who else deserves credit for your story?
So many people deserve credit for helping this business succeed, the first of which would be our incredible vendors. We have a market with our faithful vendors and their unique small businesses. We’re so thankful for their creativity and support! The market managers also deserve so much credit; the market runs smoothly with these ladies. Their supervision of the market has been integral! Lastly, the Topeka community deserves credit as well. We’ve felt a strong desire within the heart of our community to invest in itself and strengthen it by supporting local businesses and shopping small. That support and encouragement have helped us through the last 3 years and will continue.
