Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Davidson.
Hi Tiffany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey as a nurse practitioner business own began with deciding in high school that I wanted a career in healthcare. I grew up in Kansas City, went to high school in Overland Park and have worked for metro area hospitals for the last 16 years. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in nursing from UMKC and my master’s degree from UCM. Over the last 16 years I have gained valuable experience, both inpatient and outpatient. However, in 2020, I starting providing telehealth services as a NP. I quickly realized how much telehealth and remote healthcare services benefitted patients. It eliminated drives to clinic, wait times and allowed busy individuals to access care on their own schedule. I loved hearing the stories from patients about how they would of never accessed care if telehealth was not an option. During the last 5-6 years, we have really seen the telehealth environment explode with new businesses and large companies investing in this space. I started to see an opportunity to make things better- no contracts, no memberships, direct access to providers and new I wanted to start my own practice. This is how LumaVita Health was born, a desire to give busy working women, access to care when they need it without restrictive memberships.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest obstacle to starting your own business is generating trust in the community. I had a large patient panel at my previous position, but I knew that would not translate to my new business. So, I had to start fresh. Marketing is really tough. It is also hard to create trust in a telehealth space dominated by well known companies. Even though you are offering a more affordable, direct care service, patients will still gravitate to companies they know and that is understandable!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about LumaVita Health?
LumaVita is a virutal clinic that helps women and teens improve their health through personalized care. We focus on weight loss and medically supervised medication management.
I started my business because I wanted to help women of all ages have access to supportive, personalized healthcare that fits into their busy life. Women are able to access care at a time and location that is convenient for them. My virtual clinic is designed for real life and you get direct access to me via portal messaging and text.
I am porud that my brand reflects who I am as a clinician- compassionate, evidence-baed and focused on making women feel seen, heard and cared for. My brand solves a real need by making women’s wellness and weight loss more accessible, convenient and personalized.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor can be tough in a competitive healthcare community. I actually have found social media really useful. There are many social media groups where clinicians share their experiences about what works and what doesn’t. I have found access to other NPs across the country really helpful.
