Hidden Gems: Meet Samantha Raasch of Family Harmony Doula,LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Raasch.

Hi Samantha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my doula business a little over a year and a half ago after noticing a need for services for local families in the area. After helping a friend with her twin premature boys, I had found something that I was good at…nurturing moms and supporting them through a super hard time. I started out with bereavement and postpartum care then took my classes to be a birth doula. With little services in our area I wanted to make sure I could be a full spectrum doula and be able to provide help in all the areas a mom may need. I took all my training through Dona International and I am certified for birth and postpartum care -CD(DONA) and my PCD(DONA). Although Missouri does not require doulas to be certified, I personally think it is important to have proper education and training when helping in such an important and intimate setting.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although I have not had very many struggles throughout my last year and a half, I would say that the biggest struggle is just educating families on the importance of having a birth Doula and/or postpartum Doula to help with finding their voice on things they need and want in the birth process whether it be a home birth or a hospital birth, and their emotional needs/mental well-being through their birth process and after. I don’t think that a lot of people understand the importance of having a support person who holds no judgement, is non biased on their situation, wants and/or needs and what it can do for a family as a whole in the healing process.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Birth,Postpartum and Bereavement Doula in the Maryville and surrounding areas. I pride myself on getting to know my clients on a personal level and making sure they get the services they need. I will prioritize my clients emotional and physical well-being above all else! I firmly believe in empowering my families to make informed decisions that align with their values and preferences. I am a big believer that having a healthy and supportive community around you will help your family thrive on all levels.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I would not say that I am a risk taker when it comes to my profession. I think it is imperative and important that my clients be aware and educated on choices they may be considering, and I help them find their information they seek.
