Hidden Gems: Meet Nicole Maxwell of My Darling Boudoir KC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Maxwell. 

Hi Nicole, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Prior to photographing boudoir, I concentrated on lifestyle and stylized photography, which included families, maternity, children, and pets. I also concentrated on travel, landscapes, and nature/animals. While I did enjoy it, I wasn’t finding my happiness, nor financial freedom that I was searching for. I had always been interested in the beauty of boudoir. In the past, I myself had a few sessions and found them so empowering and I have always wanted to give that feeling to other women but I just didn’t know how to go about it. I learned about successful photographers in the area and in the US and started to follow them and decided to take the leap. My husband helped turn out basement into my little studio and with help from my friends being models, I began my journey! I started my site, my portfolio with model calls, and a VIP group. I am still growing but I am confident that my investment will be worth it! I will change a person’s vision of themselves, one person at a time! 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges have been that in the great city of Kansas City, there are so many incredible and established photographers already, how will I be able to stand out? it most certainly has not been a smooth road, but what passion ever is? One of my obstacles at the current moment would be leads and finding the balance between my photography business and my full-time job, time with my family, husband, and toddler, and balancing everything on top of that solely on my free days: weekends. 

As you know, we’re big fans of My Darling Boudoir KC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am many types of photographer. A boudoir photographer. A lifestyle and stylized photographer. I have been published for my photography in traveling, nature, landscapes, lifestyle, and Boudoir. What I am most proud of though, is my boudoir photography. I strive to help the client see that they are beautiful but also to have fun. I also offer a ton of options in my studio, such as cosplay, props, wigs, a Client Closet, I also have seven scenes available as well. I offer more options and that is what sets me apart! 

Any big plans?
I have so many! A few of my future plans include moving into a larger studio, expanding my cosplay options, split my concentration into weddings as well, and to finally quit my full-time job with corporate America to concentrate on being a self-made lady boss! also spending more time with my amazing daughter and husband!
