Hidden Gems: Meet Nick Nesbitt of Ozark School of Gunfighting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Nesbitt.

Hi Nick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I served in the United State Marine Corps, held multiple combat MOS’s and spent time in Afghanistan. I got out and did some EPS work for some high-value clients then got contracted by Google to do Red Team Operations and helping them improve their physical security at their data centers around the world.

I have seen the darkest places of the earth where evil runs amuck and on the other side of things had dinner on private jets with men worth 8 zeros…. what’s common in both? The want and deep desire to feel safe and have a sense of true community. I can’t make people get along, I can’t end world problems, and I’m not going to invent something that changes the world. What I can do tho is teach you how to protect yourself. I can teach you how to avoid the fight all together because that is what we really want, but if a fight must ensue you can have confidence and skill set to know you have a real chance.

So, I built the Ozark School of Gunfighting, I am training people in shooting pistols, carbines, long guns, bolt guns. We are learning everything from the basics of firearms handling to advanced CQB for single man or team-based. We are learning about what gear to carry for everyday carry (EDC) and how to read social situations to give us the upper hand on detecting conflict early and problem-solving those situations. We are fitting people out with body armor, tactical gear, and showing them the options that are out there. We are working to build safer communities who protect and preserve human life, and if evil may arise in those communities, then it’s dealt with properly, safely, and effectively.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life is easy, especially building a business. There has been challenge after challenge after challenge, from money to materials, to machines breaking, the heat, building curriculum, making sure everything is safe, trying to find insurance has been a nightmare but I finally got it done. The stupid long hours, trying to balance my marriage, me being an active father, workouts, clients, and not to mention it’s only me….

That’s what has made this journey so awesome tho, I constantly have to problem solve. I win some and lose some, those losses create learning opportunities for me to get better. I look at the pictures I have from wintertime and what the property looked like and what it is today and I can take the pride in knowing it’s all been worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We offer full-day classes, 1.5-2-hour clinics most nights, you can custom build your own training schedule and track your progress. We will be offering force on force training as well; you will be able to run real-life situations and pressure test yourself and see what kind of resolve you have. You can truly practice winning the fight for your life so that if that day ever comes you’re prepared for it. Victory seeks the prepared!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Read “The Answer” by John Assaraf and get a few of the business books written by Jocko Willink. Take your time and build a plan, make sure you have contingencies for potential challenges. Don’t be afraid to start even while you are working a full-time job…. just carve out an hour or two of your TV time and sit down and start the process….do it every day, before you know it you will be ready to fully commit and you will crush it! You can’t be afraid!

Here is the Secret Sauce to success, hard work, and consistency!
