Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Briney
Hi Nick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been passionate about health and performance. After playing college football and studying pre-physical therapy, I initially planned to go into the medical field. But through my own injuries and experience in physical therapy, I realized I wanted to work with people more directly—helping them perform better in life, not just rehab from setbacks.
I started my fitness career at Lifetime Fitness, where I worked for seven years, earned multiple certifications, trained hundreds of clients, and grew as a leader. In 2020, when the world shifted, my wife Britni (who has a background in nutrition and college athletics) and I saw an opportunity to create something we felt was missing—a fitness and wellness experience that blends expert coaching, accountability, and sustainable results.
We took the leap, leaving behind a stable career to build Evexia. We started with a vision, freelanced, and eventually went all in—securing funding, growing through strategic marketing, and creating a system that works. In 2022, we scaled quickly, hired our first coaches, and moved into our own space in 2023.
About a year and a half after settling into our own space, in mid-2024, we were unexpectedly forced to relocate due to a city project that involved the real estate we were leasing. That challenge turned into an opportunity—we fast-tracked our growth and now operate out of a 5,500-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Overland Park.
What makes us different isn’t just the facility or the equipment—it’s the coaching, accountability, and a results-driven system that meets people where they are and helps them reach their full potential.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Everything about this journey has been a leap of faith and a learning experience.
Leaving a stable six-figure career to start something from scratch was a huge risk, and the financial uncertainty in those early days was real. We made it work, but it took a lot of sacrifice, long hours, and strategic pivots to grow.
We also scaled fast in 2022-2023, which was both a blessing and a challenge. I was working 14+ hour days, every day, for months before we had the capacity to hire. There were also tough moments—unexpected setbacks with employees, business logistics, and costly build-out issues when we moved into our first space.
The biggest challenge? Being forced to relocate in 2024. Just as we were hitting our stride, we had to move our entire gym, $150,000 worth of equipment, 100+ clients, and our whole team—unexpectedly. It was a massive hurdle, but it pushed us to level up.
Through all of it, we’ve learned that resilience, adaptability, and a strong community make all the difference.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Evexia (which means “wellness” in Greek) is not just a gym—it’s a results-driven coaching experience designed for busy professionals, parents, and anyone who wants to train smarter and get better results in less time.
We specialize in:
–> Private & Semi-Private Personal Training – Personalized, expert coaching with real accountability
–> Group Training – A supportive, structured environment that delivers results
–> Nutrition Coaching – The missing piece in most fitness programs, helping clients build sustainable habits
–> Virtual Coaching & Corporate Wellness – Expanding our reach beyond the gym
What sets us apart? Coaching and accountability. Most gyms give you access. We give you a proven system that works. Every client starts with private onboarding to build a foundation before moving into the training model that best fits them.
We also offer recovery services (infrared sauna, NormaTec compression therapy, private showers, etc.), but those are just the extras. Our core focus is helping people level up their health in a way that’s sustainable and realistic.
What I’m most proud of? The community we’ve built. We don’t just train people—we support their long-term success, inside and outside the gym.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Overland Park is one of the more health-conscious areas in the metro. The city has a high standard for what it provides its residents, and the Kansas City area as a whole is a great balance of Midwestern culture with big-city accessibility.
What I like least? The lack of outdoor adventure. My family and I love being outside, and if we could drop mountains or a beach next to the city, that’d be ideal. But thankfully, the new airport makes traveling to those places easier.
