Hidden Gems: Meet Nancy Rogge of Rogge Family Vineyard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Rogge.

Hi Nancy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What makes our story stand out is that we did not start our wedding venue journey by simply building anew. We have taken our 82-year-old barns and outdoor space and restored it to create a refreshing rustic and charming venue space. But that is not what we planned 40 years ago…

My husband, Craig, bought our homestead in 1986 and restored a 100-year-old farmhouse on the property, raised a herd of cattle, and started a horse-boarding business here. Fast forward 10 years, after getting married, starting a family, and building a new house on the property, we started our own story on our little piece of heaven. We raised our two children, Cade and Leah, and enjoyed our property by raising and riding horses, raising bottle calves and chickens and ducks, collecting eggs, farming our field for hay, growing a garden, and hunting over the years.

As some journeys end, others begin. Our children eventually graduated high school and then college. To celebrate these milestones, we would host large parties for them as well as major birthdays in our large red barn and surrounding grounds. We heard from many people, “you should do this for a business.” And from there, the fire was lit!

After some major cleaning and minor upkeep to the red barn and some more rustic changes to the dairy barn as well as adding a pergola off the red barn, we booked our first event in the Fall of 2020. After a rough year during the pandemic, we started filling our calendar in mid-to-late 2021 and beyond. We recently just hosted our 200th event!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The only obstacle that is more of a learning curve than anything, is staying up to date with the ever-changing wedding/bridal culture. While it is fun to follow new trends, once you fall into that rabbit hole of the new and trendy it’s hard to remember where you started. Having our venue be a blank slate for brides to come in and add their own stylish touches has been the best course of action we took from the get-go.

As you know, we’re big fans of Rogge Family Vineyard. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Rogge Family Vineyard is a wedding and private party venue located on 26 acres in Raymore, Missouri. Our mission has been to “offer a private party rental space rich in rustic barn charm for the hosting of your joyful and memorable event.” We offer beautiful outdoor space, fields, vineyard, wildflower beds, and two large, spacious barns. One barn offers air conditioning or heat when the weather is hot or cold. The use of 11 pinewood rectangular tables, many rectangular and round folding tables, 170 woodgrain Chivari folding chairs, linens and outdoor games have been added to the venue at no additional cost. There are also many decor features available for use, including a hexagon wood arbor, a square wood arbor, 10 large white wooden lanterns, benches, whiskey barrels, wood spool tables, shepherd hooks, antique furniture, and a tremendous supply of decorations, glassware, containers, jars, wood slabs, floral, garlands and swags, floral picks, canvas, material swags, lighting, and SO much more.

We offer two set-up options, one where the bridal party comes in and creates their own wedding setting (the DIY option), or one where we create a setting based on your vision (the Full-Setup option). We have observed and advised over 200 weddings here and can help advise and recommend ideas to compliment your thoughts. Our venue is an all-inclusive venue. Our rental price includes everything we have to offer; there are no add-on costs whatsoever. We also have an open-vendor policy although we can offer excellent recommendations.

What I am most proud of is that my business partner happens to be my daughter, Leah. Once Leah graduated from college with a Communications and Marketing Degree, she came aboard the business as our hands-on setup coordinator, marketeer, and improvement supervisor. It has been a bonus on this journey to not only start a business on your beloved property but to also get to work with your daughter!
