Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Smith.
Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Delicious, nutritious food is our passion. After being diagnosed with cancer at 21, I became interested in healing the body with food. This journey eventually led us to start an organic-based farm in Colorado, and just last year, we relocated to the gorgeous Ozarks, just outside Rolla, Mo. The abundant grass and fresh spring water are much more suited to raising pasture-raised livestock than the high deserts of Colorado. Today, we are known for providing only the finest goat’s milk, pasture-raised organic eggs, and grass-fed beef. Our commitment to clean facilities, nutritious feed and love for the critters ensure our customers get the finest, freshest products you can buy! We also raise the most beautiful AKC Great Pyrenees Puppies that are excellent guardians or pets. We have found that a trained livestock guardian dog is invaluable to protecting your chickens from predators. We are developing infrastructure and fencing to grow our livestock and fresh produce offerings. We offer farm tours and overnight accommodations complimentary for our puppy families with a fresh farm breakfast. Experience the gorgeous Ozarks and meet the puppies and make new farm friends!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the struggles we have encountered along the way? We consider ourselves modern-day homesteaders that have learned that if you do not want to carry debt, you save your pennies and do your projects with cash. It takes time, patience, hard work, and sacrifice. Those core values are what we feel leads to a successful long-term business. When lean times come, and they will come, because crop prices and livestock prices fluctuate, you can maintain and grow your business. Your business may grow slower, but you sleep peacefully at night knowing you are not overextended and may be unable to meet your commitments.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are committed to providing the healthiest, organic food raised the way God intended. Not only does this food taste better, but it’s also much better for you. It is true, “You are what you eat.” We love to meet people and are now opening our home as a Farm Bed and Breakfast. Michelle loves to cook, and meals include homemade baked goods, organic eggs, goat milk, beef, and garden produce. In addition, we are working on building a cabin by our creek for a Farm VRBO which should be done in 2023. Another essential part of our operation is raising Great Pyrenees puppies. These dogs are essential to guarding the livestock and are wonderful pets too! A bonus is meeting so many wonderful families.
How do you define success?
To love what you do.
