Hi Markayla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
AdoreMarkayHair became what it is today because of my creative and adventurous mind as a teen. At age 15, I began to explore hair color and extensions. I loved the fact that I could change my looks often and have fun at the same time, a year later at age 16, I created the brand to help other girls to do the same thing!
By creating a sense of uniqueness and even enhancing someone’s looks I learned that it was something I wanted to do in the long run. I knew I loved what I did but I’ve always wanted to push myself to be better. At age 18, I was able to attend a trade school all while being in high school to eventually receive my master’s cosmetologist license.
My brand and my social accounts have grown over the years and allowed me to move to a larger city to scale AdoreMarkayHair even greater.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Throughout my high school years, it was not always easy, especially balancing school and creating a business. I’ve overcome extreme loss, death in the family, and even almost homeless at one point.
My brand has always meant the most to me, in a way I felt that my family’s future could depend on me, and I knew that if I had the opportunity to show other young girls that I would do just that.

AdoreMarkayHair is a hair extension and natural hair care company. I take pride in the fact that my business is black-owned vegan and holistic based with a background in medical care. We are known for our top-quality hair wigs and extensions and service-based items.
We’d like to be as affordable as possible so we offer payment plans and other great features with our products.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Kansas City is special to me because of all places I’ve lived and experienced you will not find the type of family-based atmosphere anywhere else. Although I’ve since moved to promote and scale my brand I do wish that Kansas City had some of the same opportunities and community-oriented features for businesses and entrepreneurs to grow.
