Hi Mariela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my candle journey wanting to spend less for a non-toxic, high-fragrance, and scent-throw candle. I was spending way too much on candles that wouldn’t last long. Constantly buying new candles to keep my home smelling and feeling clean got me thinking about how to do it myself. Lots of research and videos were watched, and of course, lots of testing of different waxes, fragrance loads (amount of fragrance used), and wicks. Today my candles are made with 100% soy wax (a clean, non-toxic slow-burning wax). All of the fragrances used are clean and natural. A pop of shimmer is added through natural mica powders. All the candles are poured in small batches to ensure the best quality. Wooden wicks are used in the candles to make the candles last longer as the wooden wicks are slow burning.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Becoming a candle maker has had its challenges. Lots of testing was done, and there were moments of asking myself if I could truly do it. There is so much to learn about candle making. A struggle is making sure that the candles stay lit. Trying to find the perfect wick to match well with the wax was tougher than I expected. Another struggle has been marketing Sirena Serena Candles, as I am an introvert.
