Today we’d like to introduce you to Madalyn Boguslaw.
Hi, Madalyn; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have a background in being on the high school yearbook team and taking pictures of my friends in my free time {the story many of us share, lol}. However, I have always loved photography and wanted to invest in myself; there was always a better time, and photography equipment is SO expensive. Because of this, I stepped away from it entirely during Covid. In late 2022, a long-term friend of mine reached out, needing help with a wedding. That wedding reignited my love for photography, and where I decided to invest in myself and my passion full force. Since then, I’ve spent the last year learning everything I can, taking part in over 30 wedding days between clients of my own and clients of people I call friends and admire in the industry. I love, love. I know it’s so cliche and so silly. But nothing is better than spending the largest day of someone’s life with all the people they care about!
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?
It had {more potholes than not some days}. The door was open as soon as my passion for photography reignited, and I put myself out there. I’ve spent almost every penny I’ve made reinvesting in my equipment, services, and clients and trying to build a brand. It’s been so worth it because of everything I’ve gotten to be a part of in the last year. I cannot wait to see what the next 5 bring.
We’ve been impressed with Madalyn R Photos {Maddy from MO}, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business’s main mission statement is “I want to make sure I am constantly cultivating a space for people to bring their fullest self to the table. Regardless of the way you identify, your race, the relationship you hold, or your body type. I spent a long time not being who I was. So, in life, my biggest desire is always to live my life authentically, & I can’t stress enough that I want the same for anyone who steps behind my camera. I hope that if we ever work together, you feel that every part of you got to exist in the time we shared.”
I strive daily to create a space of inclusivity for all love, all walks of life, and all kinds of people. I want people to feel accepted, celebrate who they are, and know they are safe in my presence. My style of photography is more candid and documentary style. I try to be as present as possible with my couples and the people they care about, capturing the hugs from friends and family as they celebrate your marriage and the tears of high school friends as they celebrate this next chapter for you. I want all the emotions: raw, crazy, and full of love.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson has been to put me out there, invest in the things I know I care about {even if I’m not a pro from the start} and build relationships with people I admire and find inspiration in. Community is so essential in this field.
