Hidden Gems: Meet Lacey Jungmeyer of Laced Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Jungmeyer.

Hi Lacey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So I grew up in the small towns of Sunrise Beach and Camdenton, Missouri. I was a tomboy as a kid but still loved sneaking off to my bathroom in our double-wide trailer to scrub my face with lemons or mix up oatmeal and yogurt masks. I loved pampering myself at a very young age. I was never taught that, my mom is totally the opposite actually, it’s just been this natural self-care thing that’s been within me.

I visited Kansas City for my 21st birthday and within three months, I had an apartment out here. I just fell in love with the city. I had decided before moving that Esthetics school felt like the best fit for me, given my favorite past-time was to hide in my bathroom and do face scrubs and masks multiple times a week. I enrolled at Heritage College in 2010 and really tried to make the most of it. Some of my classmates and I got together to create a mineral makeup company while still in school and did makeup artistry for weddings and events. One of our eyeshadows was even featured in an Ipsy Glam Bag! It was all fun and games but makeup wasn’t where my heart was and I decided to say goodbye to that venture and focus on starting my skincare career.

My first skincare gig was at a Massage Envy and I dove right in. I became Lead Esthetician and a regional trainer and even won Esthetician of the Year for 2014. That job gave me a lot of experience as far as running my own business since I did all the inventory, numbers tracking, interview processes for Estheticians, hiring, firing, you name it. My manager at that time fought really hard for me to succeed and I definitely appreciate her for the things she did for me there.

I learned I was pregnant with my son in 2015 and took six months off work to get as much bonding time with my new baby as I could. I was hired on at a medical spa in 2016 but life was turbulent. My father passed away just a couple of days before my interview with that company, I was also still dealing with pretty severe post-partum depression and ending the relationship with my son’s father. The med spa environment fed insecurities and my passion for Esthetics fizzled out. I needed a break and I needed money now that I was a single mom and I went back to waiting tables out in the Power and Light District. I did that for a couple of years while doing facials out of my living room for friends, family and clients that had been really loyal and who I felt comfortable with having in my home. After working on my mental health through meditation and energy work, my passion was becoming stronger again and I started working on my business plan.

In 2019, I rented a room out of a storefront leased by a massage therapist friend, but Covid hit soon after so I wasn’t open long there. I did some odd jobs and skincare gigs to get me through 2020 all while still focused on reopening my business.

While doing a mobile spa service at a friend’s event, I met a tarot card reader with a massage therapist friend who owned her own business in the Loretto building. She gave me her number, I met with her and she allowed me to come in a few days a week to build up clientele. I filled up my books fast but the hours there didn’t work for me and I began itching to find my own spot. Another room was available in the Loretto Building and I snatched it up. And here I am! I have now been in my own office since April 2021, numbers are rising every month and I have been getting to meet and connect with so many amazing people! It’s going great!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of my biggest challenges have honestly been with mental health while trying to provide a life I am proud of for my son. I struggle with depression and there’s definitely been many days where I’ve wanted to give up, days when I’ve asked myself why I even think I can own my own business or told myself I am not good enough. I’ve fought really hard to keep myself moving and speak self-love into my existence. Positive affirmations, surrounding myself only with people who lift me up and spending a good amount of time outdoors are all tools I use to work on my mental health.

We’ve been impressed with Laced Esthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Laced Esthetics is a more holistic style skincare studio with a main focus on acne management. I only offer products that are free from synthetic fragrance and colorings for a healthier, greener option. What sets me apart from others is my vibe. I am very laid back. I am not an Esthetician who will ever make you feel bad about using drugstore products and my clients literally talk to me about anything and everything. I have a life coaching certification so my treatment room is a safe place for life discussions. I hold many other certifications as well such as Oncology Spa Certified, Ayurvedic Beauty Rituals certified, Cannabis Master certification, Chemical Peel certification, Skin of Color certified and Dermaplane, Microcurrent and Keratin Lash Lift certified, among others. I also offer advanced sculpting facial massage techniques and a killer neck and shoulder massage! The website is convenient with online booking and shopping. Dropshipping to your home is available for all skincare products and devices.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to have grace with yourself. Life isn’t easy and no one is perfect. Keep focusing on your health, mentally and physically, and love hard. Give with all you have within yourself and expect nothing in return.
