Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Davis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve wanted to be an architect my whole life. I started building furniture in high school and I asked for a job at an architecture firm. While they told me they couldn’t hire me, they did tell me I should learn how to build so I could learn the ins and outs of design. Later on, I took a job with a builder, which kicked off my construction career — I worked with him for 10 years and we did everything, from designing the houses to framing the houses, building all of the cabinets and doing all of the trim and flooring. It was just me and two other guys. My final project with that company was building my in-laws dream home on 100 acres of land outside of Manhattan. We finished that project a week before our wedding and after a short time in Manhattan, Tara and I realized we needed to move to Kansas City to pursue our dreams of building luxury homes. After a couple years of getting to know Kansas City, Tara and I decided to jump in together and start our business. Between the initial relationships we’d formed in those first few years in Kansas City, my background in construction and architecture, and Tara’s background in commercial development and property management, we knew we had the spring we needed to get our business going (and keep it going for the last 8 years). Together, we’ve built a company that prioritizes design and craftsmanship — we have always taken every job and pushed it as far as we can with as much design in detail as possible. And we’ll continue to do that for years to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being new to Kansas City and having no heritage in this town is definitely different than a lot of our competition. Also, taking on all the architecture, interior design and construction in house leaves no one else to point any fingers at for any problems that occur at any point in the process, while it may be nice to take full control from start to finish. We bear the burden of every issue on each job. Also being a husband & wife company with no backup plan and no safety net and no other source of income is always a little scary. Another aspect that’s not really talked about too often is the differences in doing the design and the construction because I’m not a builder getting fed work from a designer and I’m not a designer getting fed any work from a builder so every relationship was started and created by us, but we love it and I have no complaints. It’s just the way it goes and some of the challenges of what we wanted to create.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in making your life better. If you don’t like where you live, we can handle every aspect of changing that and make it your dream home, from helping you create your own vision, to doing the design, the construction and even furnishing the home. We specialize in whole home renovations and new construction. We will build whatever you can afford to do the right way. We like to take everyone’s style and elevate it.
What does success mean to you?
Client satisfaction — building a home that is truly personal to our client is always our goal. Custom touches, elevated design, and a home that’s truly built for how you live. And the icing on the cake is if a client is so satisfied that they want to tell their friends and family to work with us.
