Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Pierce.
Hi Kimberly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Once upon a time in the world of theatre, where stage lights shimmer and characters come to life, I found my calling—not just in performance, but in transformation. Armed with a Theatre degree and a passion for makeup and hair, I traded scripts for brushes and began my journey as a makeup artist. That was 18 short years ago.
In 2014, I waved my entrepreneurial wand and brought The Piercing Beauty to life—with makeup as the focus. Over time, my passion for skincare grew deeper roots, and I proudly earned my esthetician licenses in both Kansas and Missouri.
Today, you’ll find me tucked inside a cozy room in the historic Firestone Building in the Crossroads Arts District of downtown Kansas City, MO—nestled within Lucrezia Mapelli’s Studio. I’m still in awe and wonder and filled with gratitude that this is my life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Pursuing makeup education in Kansas and Missouri can be challenging due to the dispersed nature of programs and varying specializations. After I exhausted the offerings of my university I craved more education. I have traveled to New York to take specialized courses, taken online classes, and studied several books, but nothing beats consistent hands-on training in real time. When I went to esthetician school I was gifted with a mentor, Lucrezia Mapelli. My skills and business have grown leaps and bounds due to her influence.
As well as inaccessible education, I made the decision to have a couple of incredible children along the way. My boys are 12 and 14 now and I can’t wait to show them how hard work and passion can change everything. There’s no way that I could have done any of this without my family, my mom and dad invested in me at every step and my husband has been my ultimate supporter and hype man for our nearly 18 years of marriage.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you’re just starting out, my biggest advice is to take every art class and opportunity you can find. Even if it doesn’t seem directly related to what you want to do, it all adds to your creative toolbox and helps you develop your eye, your skills, and your style. Don’t be afraid to try new things—you never know what might inspire you or lead to something amazing.
Be super observant. Study people, colors, lighting, textures—everything around you can teach you something. Pay attention to the little details because they often make the biggest difference, especially in creative fields like makeup, hair, or design.
Also, network like your future depends on it—because it kind of does! Connect with other artists, talk to professionals, go to events, and ask questions. Most people are happy to share advice, and you’ll learn so much just from being around others who are passionate about their craft.
And finally, always be honest. Be honest about your experience, your limits, and your goals. People appreciate authenticity, and it builds trust. It’s okay not to know everything—what matters is that you’re willing to learn and grow.
