Today we’d like to introduce you to Ki Armstrong
Hi Ki, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m became licensed in esthetics in 2013 and licensed in cosmetology in 2016. I opened Embrace Beauty Studio in Spa in 2017 simply because there was nowhere else for me to do both, esthetics and hair. At the time there was no full-service salon for black women in our region. I wanted to create a one stop shop for clients and stylists that looked like me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. We’ve overcome a lot. COVID, being forced to close my first location and other hardships. It hasnt been easy but it’s been worth it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We currently offer services for hair, nails and skin. Embrace is also the home of Genee Beauty, our private haircare line and premium hair extensions. My passion for making each of my clients feel seen and beautiful is what sets me apart from others. I want everyone to love what makes them. I’m most proud of the longevity of Embrace. A lot of things have transpired in the 8 years we’ve been here but we.’ve made it through everything.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was reserved. I wasn’t really shy, but I kept to my small circle of friends. I knew I wanted to do hair and makeup but I didn’t think I’d ever do it on this scale. I wanted (still have plans to be) be a nurse midwife.
