Hidden Gems: Meet Kevin Fullerton of Springboard Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Fullerton.

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2006, after years of working at several different advertising agencies, I decided it was time to make a bold leap and start my own firm. Springboard Creative was created to help new and small businesses make the jump to the next level. But that was only part of it. I wanted to be able to give back freely to my community.

As part of starting Springboard, I became very active within the advertising community, the city I live in and increased the amount of time I already spend working with college students (including teaching at the Kansas City Art Institute) – especially those from my alma mater, Northwest Missouri State University. I make sure we give away 25% of our hours to causes we care about.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We celebrate 16 years in business this January, and the ride has always been a bit bumpy. But that’s not a bad thing. It always makes me make sure we are focused on the right things. Plus, you learn a lot more from things that go wrong than from things that go right. And I’ve learned a lot.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Springboard Creative is a graphic design firm focused on branding and communications design (editorial, annual reports, marketing brochures, etc.). But most importantly, we are driven by giving back to our community. We donate 25% of our hours to our community – whether it’s the city we live in, the industry we love, the college we consistently support, or just something that feels like it can use our help. In 2018 we were selected as the Small Business of the Year by the NEJC Chamber for our devotion to our community.
