Hidden Gems: Meet Katy Bourzikas of Well Rested Wee Ones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Bourzikas.

Hi Katy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been passionate about sleep and sensitive to lack of sleep. Let’s just say I would always be the first one to go to sleep at a slumber party! On top of being passionate about sleep, I have worked in pediatrics as a nurse and nurse practitioner for 15 years and thoroughly enjoy working with families with babies and toddlers.

My husband and I made the choice to sleep train both of our boys after struggling with sleep deprivation and its effects on our overall well-being. It was life-changing! I quickly felt like myself again and had energy to do the things I love.

I found myself wanting to work with new families navigating sleep and feeding challenges and came across a consulting opportunity with Hatch Baby where I worked as an expert advisor on an app to answer parenting questions. The majority of the questions were related to sleep! I wanted to expand my ability to support families and provide more comprehensive support to families in relation to sleep and feeding as they are tied so closely together I then became a certified sleep coach and breastfeeding counselor. After finishing those certifications, I then started Well Rested Wee Ones in the fall of 2019 combining my expertise in sleep, breast and bottle feeding, and pediatrics to support families with sleep coaching from newborn to age 4. What started as a local business providing sleep consulting services to families in Kansas City quickly turned into a business that was recognized across the US thanks to social media. I work with families from coast to coast and outside of the US with virtual coaching plans and support. I do also offer in home sleep coaching services to families that live in the Kansas City metro area.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business has definitely had its ups and downs. I spent the first few months networking with local providers and businesses to get my name out there. Luckily, these businesses and people were grateful to have a resource to refer patients and clients to. My business quickly grew thanks to word of mouth referrals and the power of social media! I am able to set my own hours and limit the number of clients I work with at one time to ensure everyone has a successful experience.

As you know, we’re big fans of Well Rested Wee Ones. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I provide personalized sleep training plans and support for families from newborn to 4 years of age. What sets me apart is my background in pediatrics and medical/nursing background. I look at the whole picture when it comes to newborn sleep and sleep training plans. I do not have a one size fits all approach which families appreciate and seek out. I love educating families and love my community on social media!

I offer a variety of services including downloadable guides, personalized sleep plans with email support, coaching calls, and email consults. I also offer in home sleep coaching to local Kansas City residents.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My passion for sleep and understanding how every child and family is different.
