Hidden Gems: Meet Jordan Raglow of Adaptive Academics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Raglow.

Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to college for elementary education and got a job teaching fourth grade right after I graduated. I spent four years as a classroom teacher. I had my first baby in the fall of 2021. Initially I had planned to return to classroom teaching. Once I held him that plan went out the window. I was determined to find a way to get to stay home with him. To do so, I needed to be able to make some supplemental income. I also had to finish out my teaching contract.

In the Spring of 2022, I saw a Facebook post from a mom asking for a math tutor for her fourth grader. I reached out and she agreed to let me work with her son. I slowly built up my client base from there. Working with students one-on-one is great because you get to personalize the lessons for them. There is flexibility and freedom in tutoring that the traditional classroom does not allow. As I took on more students, I realized pretty quickly that the demand for tutors was way higher than I imagined.

After extensively discussing things with my husband, I decided to try to turn the tutoring into a true business rather than just a side-hustle. At the beginning of 2023, Adaptive Academics was born. At first, it was still just me, but we slowly took on tutors and have transformed into an ever-growing tutoring agency.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road. The process of finding additional tutors has presented its challenges. I had never been on the interviewer side of the table before. Stepping into that role came with some learning curves. Along with that, I had never managed people before. Well, I had never managed adults. Overseeing upwards of 10 adults is much different than a classroom of 25 ten year olds. It took some time to figure out the correct level of support to provide to the tutors, determining the best methods and timing of communication, and in general just finding my “groove” in this new role.

Perhaps the biggest challenge has been balancing growing a business while I’m home full-time with two kids (4 and 1.5 years old). I have conducted tutoring sessions with my baby on my lap, made countless calls with my kids playing next to me, and my husband has done many bedtimes solo while I was at tutoring sessions. Despite this being difficult at times, it’s also the best part. I love that I created a business that allows me to spend so much time with my kids while they’re little. This time goes so fast.

As you know, we’re big fans of Adaptive Academics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Adaptive Academics is a private tutoring agency. We offer tutoring sessions for students K-12 in math, reading, phonics, writing, and science. The thing that sets us apart from many other tutoring companies out there is that we adapt our lessons to each students’ goals and learning styles. We do not follow a scripted curriculum. Instead, our tutors develop lessons specifically for each student that they work with. Our tutors are all either trained classroom teachers or content experts. They all complete background checks and are personally vetted by me, so families can be confident in the tutors that are working with their children.

Additionally, we are a member of the National Test Prep Association and help students prepare for the ACT. In fact, we are launching our first ACT prep course to help students prepare for the February 2026 ACT test. The course will be capped at 5 students and will provide 12 hours of in-person instruction, as well as, personalized homework and feedback. Enrollment for that course is open now.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to learn more about us or get started on tutoring for your student is to visit our website. We are also on Instagram @adaptive-academics so we always encourage people to follow us there. But the best way to support us is through referrals. We know how much confidence that it shows to trust us with your child and their education. So we truly feel so honored anytime someone refers us.
