Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Blankenship
Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
18 Years ago I opened Social Suppers in Corinth Square to provide family & friends with super delicous, quick & easy breakfast, lunch & dinner items they can pull from thier freezer, thaw & cook when they need them. No chopping or prep, just thaw, cook and eat. We have several freezers & a fridge customers can stop in and shop from. We offer over 70 diffrent entrees you can choose from everyday. Or, Customers can also place on online order for future pick up. Our menu changes every month to provided a wide varierty of diffenent entree options.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning your own business will never be a smooth ride and that’s the best part, it’s like the Ocean, it ebbs and flows. When I first opened Social Suppers in 2006 the concept was structured for customers to attend a session in my store, socialize with each other while preparing meals to take home to freeze for when they need them. Over time, customers didn’t want to assemble their meals, they wanted us to prepare them and they would pick them up. This meant I needed more freezers, counter space & staff to accomodate the change.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Social Suppers?
Social Suppers has been providing preassembled, ready to cook, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinners to the KC Metro area for over 18 years. Our monthly menu offers a selection of preassembled Entrees, Appetizers, Sides and Desserts that are ready to cook when you need them. No Prep, No Mess, No minimum orders you purchase as many as you need. Our Entrees come in 2 sizes. Full Entrees serve 6 and Half Entrees serve 3. Plus we have Gluten Free, Vegetarian & Lite & Fit Entrées that are low calorie & low sodium.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Every day is a risk when you own your own business. Since I opened in 2006, my small business has gone through a recession, a pandemic & major increase in food costs. I also had to change my business plan to evolve with my client’s needs and new dietary restrictions. I also take a risk by changing my menu every month. So, you run the risk of not having what your clients want when they come in. Risk is a huge part of owning your own business, there is no one to blame for your failures when they happen. But the reward when your business is thriving and the community around you are happy to have your services is SO worth every bit of the risks that you take.
