Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasyn Turley.
Hi Jasyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2009, I start putting to page a story that I was obsessed with; the story was of a game me, my brother, and our friend played outside or when on the road, anytime anywhere. And the ‘putting to page’ this story was the momentum of falling snow that preludes an avalanche. And now, I have a passion for storytelling and books.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. God, no. But if you didn’t love something you wouldn’t do it. For me, there are two struggles that has been paramount for me; and that have informed me how much I loved my passion for storytelling/books, First, is the most obvious most writers, or artists for that matter, encounter, it’s not writing that is hard it’s the act of sitting down to write that is hard. The second one, is more ambiguous for me to find words for but an illustration should suffice; the fire on a match is always brightest when first stricken and the flame withers but still burns.
As you know, we’re big fans of Jasyn Turley’s Publishing LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
So, my LLC is the entity under which I conduct my publishing endeavors. I’m not only an indie-author but an indie-publisher. I did this for the sole protection, publishing, and distribution of my books. Right now, my main series ‘WEEKS’ is going strong, the happy-accident of a standalone novel ‘The Samhain Terror’ and assorted short-stories and novellas on my website.
I’d love to say that I am an expert in the publishing world and books in general. But in truth, I’m only an expert in my own interests and projects. The publishing world in general is an area I am trying to improve in. As I said before, the LLC is for the protection, publishing and distribution of my books. So, what’s sets me apart? I’d say nothing, at least nothing different from my fellow writers and authors. What sets my books apart though, that is a more interesting question, I think.
Every story, every book conveys, for the right reader, essential truths of reality. Emotions and feelings that we know are true and long for. What essential truth or reality does my stories convey? Well, if the right reader finds them and syncs with them, and experience the joys and pains of the characters, then they’ll know.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness… Here’s where I’ll be a downer. I’m melancholic. I’m a numb person. I think happiness is more of an effort than a feeling. I don’t think it’s a byproduct of life I think it’s a choice. I think Joy, is something that has more quality than happiness. I can choose to be happy on a Monday when I go to work to balance the melancholy. But joy, that comes when I see my dogs smiling, happy, and healthy. When I am burnt out, weary, hurting, or sad, Joy can be co-present during such adversities.
